I've been on rogaine since 2006 (6 years this fall). I was 25 years old when I started noticing some minor thinning in my crown and started that treatment; I was being proactive about it.
I continued the rogaine treatment for the next four years. I'm convinced that it helped to slow my hair loss way down, however, it was not stopping it completely.
So two years ago, I began using finasteride with it... and again, it has helped, but it is not COMPLETELY stopping it.
The reason I know, is because the other day I was looking at the top of my crown in the mirror for the first time in a long time, and I'm noticing a small place (maybe a square centimeter) where there is skin now, no hair left. And if you know balding, you KNOW that's the "point of no return."
I'm very convinced that if I had not begun these treatments, my hair would be MUCH worse off by now (I'm now 31 years old). However, my hair is still just slowwwwwly thinning, especially across the crown. I'm accepting it more-and-more the older I get, kind of the "oh well, I'll wear it short/buzz it attitude"... but I'd still like to keep it if I can.
My question is, would it be wise to switch over from my 1mg Finasteride treatment to 0.5mg Dutasteride? Anyone have first-hand experience with dutasteride? Also, I have not begun Nizoral yet either, would you recommend it?
