Had a look around to find the answer and I thought it would be easiest to ask here. Is Finasteride mandatory when you get a transplant?

Thanks, dudes. Forget I turned my notifications off.

Is it possible to use rogaine after your transplant as an alternative? I used that back in the day, and it seemed to stabilize my loss. I'm considering a transplant but I just can't go on Finasteride.

It depends on your final norwood stage... some guys progress to nw3-4 and thats it. But theres not really anyway of telling what that will be other than a educated guess based on family history.

Its strongly advised to take it sure. But there are plenty of people that don't. you just need to be realistic with your goals & leave plenty of grafts in the bank for future procedures.

are there any people on here who have had transplants who DON'T take Finasteride or another form of DHT blocker?

Yes me , I’ve seen some great results from people not using it at all .
I did take finesteride for 4 and a half months after my transplant but then stopped I feel my hairloss has pretty much ended so I should be ok

great results! Did you have anything transplanted to the very front where you previously had some hairs?

I currently have lost all of my crown, with the front going also. I'm worried that if I undertook a transplant then the current hair I do have on top would eventually go and would require another procedure.

How long after the transplant were these new photos taken?

There are guys not on finasteride who have had 2/3 hair transplants and it has worked for them. So the answer is no, it is not mandatory but it's a risk.

yeah I guessed as much....I have weak donor area according to UK based doctors (although Feriduni and Erdogan said I should be fine) to have a transplant. All mentioned finasteride but as I have had mental health problems in the past (depression and anxiety for which I take prozac daily) I don't want to take it.

I tried the Belgravia Centre's topical regime (serum in morning, cream in night), but it didn't do much at all, especially not for the price.

At the moment its mainly my crown I am concerned about. Its basically completely bald even though I have hair on the back, sides and front, although admittedly the front has started to go also.

Maybe I should just go with a system....or get SMP in the bald areas

Am 31 yr old so would like to get something sorted soon.

It's better to be a high Norwood without finasteride because you have hardly any hair left to save. The problem is for guys who are NW2/3 who are going to continue to bald behind their transplant. Those are the guys who might run into problems without finasteride.
