Been taking generic finasteride 1mg daily for around 4 months now and my hair looks worse than ever, I know there's suppose to be a shed phase but the shedding of hairs hasn't changed, only difference is my hairline is worse and my hair look so thin. This f*****g sucks it's meant to regrow hair not make it worse.

I'm sorry to hear this. Can you post pictures? Possibily before/after you started to use finasteride?

I'm not sure if I have pictures of my hair close up, however I can clearly see the difference even by looking at regular pictures from 6-7 months ago, also feels really thin

Where did I say I bought anything cheap? I bought it from superdrug as I'm in the UK and people here say 1mg finasteride/propecia is exactly the same

finasteride may help you, or it may f*ck you. Anyone that thinks the later occurs in only like 5% are deluded and simply wrong. I would definitely wait a couple more months. If you're well below baseline, drop it cold. Fear mongering aside, every single day we see more and more people reporting an aggressive increase in hair loss due to finasteride. It makes more sense to me that the population is greater than what the studies state. With medications like these, it should be assumed that there is a decent probability your body will work to counter it's effects. By doing so, you AR's are in increased along with your testosterone. imo, not an ideal situation for your follicles. Good luck brother. Hang in there. Given it's one of the few weapons we have, give it more time. Finasteride f*cked me BAD and hell, I am on dutasteride now, hanging on to that glimmer of hope that something stronger will benefit me. At the first sign of aggressive loss, or scalp inflammation, I will drop it.

Thanks, if finasteride fails should I switch to dutasteride?

Why the f*** aren't you on minoxidil?

I really only wanna get on min as a last resort as I really don't wanna commit to using that twice daily for the rest of my life, not to mention my scalp is already so damn irritated and it'll probably make it worse.

It seems to be a complete game of genetic chance. finasteride has been working well for me, but I know a lot of folks don't receive the same feedback. I agree with the above comments - give it more time. But if I were in your position, I might consider dutasteride. Still, that seems less understood than finasteride. So it in itself is kind of questionable.

Propecia for almost 6 months made things noticeably worse for me. I was patiently waiting for the magical "I could finally run my hands through my hair without seeing strands of hair fall off and stick to my hands" or not losing 50+ hairs every time I run my head under water. I added generic dutasteride eod to propecia for another 3 months and not only I kept shedding terribly but the lethargic and cognitive side effects were suddenly more pronounced. I didn't feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel and I decided not to stick trough and quit both meds cold turkey.

So In 9 months altogether I went from thinning hair that most women would still find acceptable for a 30 year old (not that type of ugly thinning/bald spot that keeps catching your eye) to not being able to go out without using a concealer otherwise I gotta buzz it.

After a 6 months 'clean' break I'm once again trying Propecia and added minoxidil as well. I'm a good responder to minoxidil but it's giving me one hell of an unbearable itch that I don't know how long I'll be able to withstand. I'd have to either switch to oral minoxidil (cheap but dangerous, plus it would benefit my long beard i'm growing out) or try non PG liquid/foam ones which are much more expensive the the cheap kirkland liquid.

p.s. i know how most of the good propecia responders mention they shed a lot of thin wispy hair and a few good hairs. for me i keep shedding just plenty of 'good' hairs, more good hairs compare to the thin wispy ones.

finasteride definitely doesn't work for everyone. I've been on it 2 years and still "shedding". Pretty sure the pill is doing literally nothing.

It works for some and not for others. Personally, I wouldn't mess with dutasteride but to each their own. But I don't blame you for cutting and running. When that hair comes out for months it's hard to keep taking it

It's not necessarily the shedding that's bothering me since I was also shedding a lot of hairs before finasteride, it's just that the best male pattern baldness treatment out there which is suppose to have such a high success rate does nothing for some people and if anything makes their hair loss worse.

You have to be patient. It will often get worse before getting better.

Also, It's your only choice if you want to fight male pattern baldness. So make a decision and stick with it

How old are you and when did you start balding?

If you started balding before your 20s your balding is probably going to be too aggressive for finasteride.
Count on having to add RU or jumping on dutasteride, or even dutasteride + RU.

Why not just become a tranny at that point.

Buckthorn,

Where have you been, my friend?

Used to be on here all the time. Haven't seen you in a while.

Hey man! just returned from camping in Cali. With a buzzed head, it made the trip A LOT easier. Even though it was thin, my friends saw it, and didn't even say anything. :D as for f*cking finasteride? Dude, it regrows NW1's in 99.9% of people. It's probably just you guys that have the problem. It is in your head. Have you tried lifting weights and rubbing one out brah? It will solve everything.

I'm now 20 and started balding at 18, thought that I would react well to finasteride since it's one of the big guns so to speak.

Why not? ;)
dutasteride (which many people take for non-baldness reasons and do fine) + RU which barely goes systemic... that is what you equate to being a tranny?

All I can say is - I really hope finasteride works for you.
