finasteride in UK

i'm complete newbie here i have read around but havent really found def answers ive been looking for
i'm thinking of getting on finasteride and i'm based in Uk so my question is should i go doctors for it and if so how much does it cost or is it just normal presciption cost?

Or am i better buying it online at inhouse etc?

Could someone in the UK give me some advice on this please??

you could acquire finasteride in both those ways

getting a prescription would cost you an average visit to your local GP or Derm
it would be wise to go for multiple reasons that way you can "kill to birds with one stone etc"

alot of people here use inhouse
and they are more than likely a legit company

i got a prescription because i wanted peace of mind
knowing that my drugs are authentic

if you do start using finasteride you may want to use Proscar or generic Proscar
which is 5mg of finasteride and not 1mg like Propecia

i myself use 5mg of finasteride and split them into 4ths

you can SAVE alot of money doing it that way!

I'm from the uk. I would greatly suggest you to use the genuine propecia tablets first.

You have the following options:-

(1) Boots directly (without prescription). They currently have a hairloss regime which is basically propecia. A quarterly (3 packs of 28 tablets) will set you back £35 per pack.

(2) Lloyds pharmacy (without prescription). Roughly the same price as boots but 2 pounds expensive. They do have another regime which is basically minoxidl and propecia. This costs £55 per month <would not recommend this> as more expensive.

(3) Private prescription from doctors which is free. Then purchase directly from a UK based pharmacy only. Costs £32 per month.

(4) Obtain genuine merck proscar as a private prescription. I can tell you now - most or almost all doctor will not prescribe 5mg finasteride (proscar) for male pattern baldness. They will risk themselves from being struck off. Even if you plan to cut it in quarters.

(5) Purchase online from overseas [I have no experience with this].

I have always used propecia [merck] - look at my blog. I have been on this for roughly 8 years.
It is safe. That is why many pharmacies in the uk do not need a prescription. But I do suggest you to see your doctor first.

One last question teddy what do you say when you saw the dr? i'm a bit shy,and feel bit stupid when seeing dr, as im sure lot of people are?

yeah, you can buy Finasteride from larger Boots/Lloydspharmacies, but you must have a consult with the store's Pharmacist first before they will sell it to you. Boots keeps "hair retention" leaflets in some of their stores, just go to the medicines counter with one. AFAIK they'll also take your blood pressure there.

You can go down your GP's and just tell him you have male pattern baldness and you wish to have a prescription for 1mg Finasteride to treat it. Can't see any doctor refusing that, though I guess some might go "hmm?". Tell him "I don't want to go bald, it will make me look uneasy. I wish to have a prescription for Finasteride to treat it, and I realise it will be a private prescription".

If you ask a UK GP for a Dutasteride prescription for male pattern baldness you will be laughed out of the surgery. :laugh:

Personally, I can't be arsed with the hassle, I just got mine from Inhouse Pharmacy.

I've been using Finpecia from Inhouse for a year now and had some good results ... I did get a prescription but 30 quid a month was a bit steep for me. Glad I went generic now ...

Vanwilder!! Don't be worried! I can tell you now! All the GP's have no clue what they are talking about hairloss!

Just tell them you are suffering from male pattern baldness and that your father lost his hair early on. Tell him that you are suffering from it and know that some people are using propecia and that you would like a prescription for it.

I also suggest you to ask them to put it on repeat prescription and will save you time popping in and booking in an appointment everytime just to get the prescription.

Alternatively pop into boots and book an appointment with their so called consultants. The whole process is basically sitting with the pharmacist who has petty training on the process. They go through a questionaire and just tick the right boxes. They sign the form and you too. They then tell you the price.

One month is more expensive. Quarter is cheaper and 12 month even cheaper.

Don't feel embarrassed. We all get enough stick as it is. Go in and be proud. At least you are doing something about it. Eventually when we all bald, just shave it all off.
