All derms and hair styles that i have talked to beleive that propecia really does work in preventing hairloss in men.. however, after reading all your post on how it doesnt do anything, i'm a bit discouraged... Am i right about my assesment? or are the ones only with no succuss the ones posting all the negaitve comments??

negative mindsets in using propecia usually come from expecting too much/ making judgements about effectiveness too soon/ paranoia from hairloss forums. If you take it and expect to just start maintaining what you have left, than what you expect to happen has a 80% chance of happening

i think drinkrum once said, judging propecia's effectiveness from this forum would be like judging the rate of cancer in a cancer treatment center.

re:

Jfrank,
Do you have photos to back up your assessment. It is not that I don't believe you it is that sometimes we are our worse critics. I am sure that you started making daily (or even hourly) assessments on your hair once you started finasteride and believe that it was hurting you when it really wasn't. I saw a photo from about a year ago and I could see that my hairline had already receeded, yet at the time I had no clue because I did not think I was balding.

no i dont have any photos on this computer to post.. the reason i notcied the rapid change in my hair was being i was obsessed with hair at the time.. I sometimes wear a hair backwards... but in about 2 weeks, the hairline visible deteriorated like crazy.. in a span of a few days, more scalp was visible.. I've been studying pictures of myself in march.. there was a dramatic change to my hairline by early april...

JFrank, try not to worry, you've only been on it a short time, I'm sure you'll see thickening of the hair in the next few months, give it more time.

You're right, the amount of negative posts is disproportionate on this forum.

thanks for the words of encouragement... i only want to maintain what I have and maybe gain like 5% more coverage all over my head... then i'll be in heaven..

Propecia: 11 weeks
nizoral: 8 weeks
minoxidil: 3 years
folligen: 8 weeks

Don't take many of the comments on here to heart. . .one guy will be having a bad hair day, or a bad couple of weeks and gets on here and starts bashing propecia/minoxidil etc. . more often than not he didn't give it the necessary length of time or expects way too much. You'll go through your ups and downs during treatment. The key is to just stick to it and don't count hairs. There is around an 80% percent chance you'll have postive results.

thanks man... i appreciate it.... what i've been doing is avoiding mirrors when my hair is wet or on rogaine, just so i wouldnt worry about hair all the time... when its dry, it loooks decent overall (cept for the hairline where the hairs are so thin, i can honestly count the rows)

Yep - I can relate to that - I hate looking at my hair when its soaking wet or been 'rogained' at the hairline, so I avoid all mirrors or reflections when possible.
