Finasteride at 16 years old?

Hello, I'm new to this forum and i sort of wish I wasnt given my age.. Anyways I'm thinking about taking propecia pretty soon, and im more so just looking for approval or an outside perspective. So heres my hairloss story and i hope someone more knowledgable than myself gives me advice cause im not entirely sure what to do. I'm 16 years old and approximately 3 months from being 17; i just recently started using rogaine and just ordered nizoral, but i think I could benefit more from using finasteride too. Im currently boarderlining a Norwood 3, and recently thinning has been getting worse. I did only start rogaine two weeks ago and im starting the shedding phase, or so i believe.. However, there has been no side effects at all.

As for the side effects that are associated with finasteride, I'm not Too worried about them affecting me. I'm a national level weightlifter and have naturally high levels of testosterone and such. I have undergone most effects of puberty and itd actually be better for weightlifting if i didnt grow anymore. Male pattern baldness runs through our family heavily. My dad was bald around age 25. Other than that the only other large contributing factor is school; im trying to go to a top tier American school, which means constant high stress and sleep deprivation.

Whatever the circumstance I'm certainly undergoing the effects of male pattern baldness and it destroyed my confidence. Literally, destroyed all of my confidence; regardless of whatever else i have or who i am. Pretty much im willing to try anything.

Do you think finasteride is worth it for me right now? Right now i think it is..

Starting Finasteride at age 16 is really pushing it. I would talk to your GP, see a hair transplant surgeon, and find out if you can qualify to start the medication at your age. If you've really gone through most or all of puberty and are physiologically well developed, your body may already be fine to start taking Finasteride. Though, legally you have to be 18 years of age or older to take Finasteride, but if you wait until you're 18, your hair loss could be pretty bad by then.

I took finasteride at 16 or 3-4 months before turning 17 and I developed normally. but when I started i was pretty much full grown. There are people born without DHT and develop just fine post High school. Its a risk, but I don't think its a very big one and the alternative is going bald which is devastating. If I were you I would get on finasteride if you feel that you are finished with puberty.

speak to your doctor about this, this could be very detrimental to how you grow if you havent finished man! dont rely on a forum to tell you this stuff.. if you were 18+ asking for advice ok, but dont let some random *** people tell you what to do in this situation. we all know finasteride side effects get way underreported.. but yet they felt the need to stress the fact that people under 18 should never use the drug, that tells me something. be safe bro

If it was me I would take finasteride, but your choice. There are risks, but I think the benefits outweigh them.

Testosterone isn't a concern. The concern is the reduction of DHT - which is far more important for sexual development. Propecia will also cause a rise in estrogen that could close your growth plates and end puberty. Don't take propecia until you are at least 18 or later, depending on when your growth plates close. Get an X-ray to find out.

First, the doctor thing is very true. Our family doctor is probably the worst I've ever heard of (its a long story). Secondly, when people talk about finasteride stunting growth are they talking about literal, vertical growth? If that is the case then I actually rather be taking it and not grow any more. Im boarderlining the taller end of the scale in height where powerlifters can compete on an international scale. So I dont care about that at all. As far as body maturity, i'd say im pretty far along. So, how else does taking propecia/finasteride stunt growth? Also, to the other commenter, it was my understanding that testosterone was an important factor in hairloss because DHT is a derivative of testosterone??? And lastly when you say taking it had no side effects do you nothing at all or nothing big & did you just take one milligram tablets / did you take it with rogaine or nizoral?

Dont be dumb, you wont like powerlifting forever. Being tall can be very usefull in life.

No, propecia will not stunt your growth. And no DHT is not critical for sexual growth after like 15-16 IMO. If you are balding you should be taking it.

DHT you wait any longer God dammit! I kick myself for not starting earlier and I'm 23! Plus it doesn't just nuke Dht. It inhibits one of the two types of enzymes and only by up to 70%.so your body still has some. It's not as useful to the body after development. So at 30% DHT your hair can resume growth.
