I've read that if you get an initial shed in the first 3 months it's a good sign that finasteride will work for you. So is it a bad sign if you don't get an early shed?

I think it depends on how far it has progressed before treatment/ how aggressive your hair loss is and the pattern you have. I basically stopped shedding large hairs quickly on finasteride. But was probably shedding miniaturized small hairs/fuzz that I couldn't notice unless I ran a comb through my hair.

What norwood are you and what pattern do you have?

I'm about a Norwood 2.5 or 3 at the temples and some thinning at the front middle but very thick hair everywhere else. I've have a slow, nonaggressive recession, its taken over 10 years to get to this point although I thought my recession was speeding up a bit in the last year.

Most likely not

If the shedding wasn't excessive in the first place then I cant imagine it would be a bad thing not to shed more.
