Finasteride and Propecia pricing info in US

I know that Finasteride is generic version of Propecia. Dermatologist is recommedning that I do either oral medicine rather than Rogaine or minoxidil because I don't yet have any bald spots. Being on a prescription med for life will be a serious pain in the butt and in my pocket as I will have to keep seeing the doctor (like 2 or 3 times a year), and keep buying the non-insured med.

Anyone know the expected cost of finasteride or Propecia on US Eastern Coast area? The Doctor has prescribed 1mg.

Propecia is expensive. I got a prescription for it like a year ago and I think it was somewhere around $80 for a 30 days supply or something like that. You can have your doctor prescribe Proscar, which is the 5mg version of finasteride and then cut the pills into 4 equal pieces (which comes out to 1.25mg). Proscar is cheaper than propecia..in fact I believe at Walmart a 30 days supply of proscar is like $9.

You can do what I do (and many others do) which is use an online pharmacy (i use inhousepharmacy.biz)..go to their hairloss section and check out the drug Finpecia...its the same exact thing as propecia, just a generic..and its 1mg. Some people get nervous about using an online pharm but, I've used it several times now (as have other people here) and never had a problem. A 30 day supply of 1mg tablets from there is like $20.

Taking a pill each day takes up about 10 seconds, and if popping a pill a day "for the rest of my life", which I doubt because there will be better products on the market in the next 5-10 years if not an actual cure, means I stop further hairloss and don't have to go through the anguish of hairloss, well I'll pop ten pills a day.

no..a lot of people cut their pills..including me (I take a .25mg dose). they'll be fine. its not time release or anything so..its fine

Yeah propecia is a big rip off but I think end of next year it goes off patent so there will be a generic version in a few years. I find it annoying to have to see a doctor to get propecia I mean the visit is what 5 minutes? I basically just ask him for the prescription I mean there is nothing really he can do. You cant notice a loss in hair density until 50 percent is gone he said.
Your choice, but I would advise you get a real prescription for generic proscar or if not then just propecia. Then you use that to order from a legit canadian pharmacy for a cheaper price and do it that way. My derm suggested it and its much much safer then getting pills from india somewhere. I dont think its good idea to buy medications from pharmacy with no prescription because its not legit to do that.

Yes, it is not fair to keep having to return to the doctor and pay him/her just to get that d a m n prescription on a piece of paper.

Another question is anyone have any experience with Saw Palmetto? I have 160mg 50 pills in my cabinet. I might finish that to see if it helps any before buying finasteride.

Saw Palmetto is largely a waste of time...I have never seen ANYONE post results using only saw palmetto. I would start taking finasteride ASAP if you're going to do it..and forget about taking saw palmetto with it..its just not effective or necessary

Ok, but how exaclty does finasteride work? Does it initally cause shedding of thin hairs for up to few months like Rogaine and after that grow thicker hairs from enlarged follicles? Yes, I understand they have you for life once you start as your hairs become dependent on it.
