I have read that many have experienced a loss of density with Finasteride and while i don't take finasteride, i take Saw palmetto but have experienced a similar density effect, i just wondered whether the loss of density has returned for anyone or whether its a really negative effect that never goes away.

I took daily propecia for 2yrs. I was losing density all over throughout those 2 yrs at what I believe to have been an increased rate. After quitting I was left with a bald spot at crown that i didn't have before, loss of both temple points with one side worse than other, and much reduced density in the front of half my head.

Not trying to scare you. I would just suggest that if by the first 6 to 9 months your thinning hasn't stopped, then it's unlikely you will find success later. You always hear about the guys that only got results after sticking it out for the 2 y mark. Well, I hoped for the same and loat hair the entire time. I've been off propecia now for almost 3 months and im losing hair just the same as i was on it. I hope it slows down to the pre propecia rate. Some would argue I didn't respond to it and continuing couldn't have hurt. Now that I've been off it for a bit I'm starting to understand the subtle sexual and behavioral side effects I was experiencing. I always new something was up, but it was hard to appreciate the impact.

Sorry but I highly doubt that reducing the dht levels will actually lead in more thinning. It might just be that your hairloss is rapid and your hair follicles just don't respond to the medication that well.

Alot of things that are meant to block DHT for me just make my hair thin and straw like and i can't figure out why that is.

its quite depressing really because it limits the options for me.

Man had a very similar response. Pretty sure if I quit I will continue to lose at the same rate, but who knows. Pretty sure I am actually having minor subtle sexual side effects as well, such as less quality erections and less frequent morning wood. I have been noticing that on finasteride I still get morning wood occasionally but the erections are sh*t quality in the morning compared to off it. Gonna wait a couple more days on .5mg a day to test this theory, but if it continues as the same I am going to drop it.

And I guess not responding to finasteride is better than getting full-blown side effects that persist, but sucks either way. Never heard of a non-responder getting persistent sides.

I'm 7 days short of a full 12 months on finasteride and I can rest assured I did continue to thin, I believe slower than no finasteride, but my hairloss still got worse this past year. I'm pretty desperate at this point so I'll be going for a 2nd year.

Lol I was saying the same thing, quit at the 1 year mark if things still going this shitty. Couldn't do it. I know I have male pattern baldness, and if I quit I am essentially giving up on my hair which I am not ready to do. Been on it 3 years now, loss definitely slowed down since the 1 year mark, but still losing hair and am not happy with how my hair looks now. My hair still looked amazing when I started treatments, just wishing I could have gotten maintenance, regrowth would have been a plus but didn't need it. Instead I got insane shedding for a year.
