Finasteride 5mg

Hello everyone. I have got some Finasteride 5mg tablets, but am I right in saying people recommend 1mg? They are blue, really small ones. They are circular with F5 written on them. I am not sure if I could cut them up evenly. Would 5mg be too much?

Also how important do you think the shampoo you use is? Should I look at a generic thickening shampoo or is Nizoral the only available one? Thanks a lot, really appreciate it.

You should get a pill cutter and cut them into fourths or fifths. It really doesn't matter what shampoo you use in my opinion although Nizoral is used by many due to it's possible anti-androgenic and/or growth stimulating properties. I am allergic to the active ingredient and do not use it.

Above a certain minimum dose (a fraction of a milligram), finasteride has a relatively "flat" dose-response curve. Taking larger doses (over a surprisingly large range) wouldn't be a problem.

The reason the great majority of people cut up 5 mg tablets in the first place is just to save money; cutting them up "unevenly" is certainly not going to be a problem.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The reason I have 5 mg is because of my cousin, who bought them but has not used them.

Do you think then, I would be fine to start using 5mg Finasteride tablets and maybe eventually move on to 1mg? Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Sure, that's perfectly fine, if that's what you want to do. But why not just go ahead and cut them up into smaller doses right away? You'll extend your available supply if you do that, and make more efficient use of what you have! At least cut them in half (doubling your supply), if you're nervous about cutting them into quarters.

That does make sense. With regards to cutting them up, how important is it that they are cut up evenly? Also, is it ok to cut a batch of them up in one go (i.e. cut about 60 up in one day and leave them in a cupboard) or is it better to cut them up every day? Thanks Bryan, I appreciate it.

I would advice against cutting them all up at once. The filler in the pills could have a negative response to air over long duration. This could eventually lead to weakening of the active ingredient.

I would recommend cutting up no more than 14-30 days worth at a time and keeping in an airtight container.
