Been on finasteride for 3 years now. My hair is the best its even been. Compared to what it was 1 or two years ago.

Now out of no where WHAM I have had side effects. Soft muscles, loss of libido, clearish sperm and worse of all onset of b**ch tits.

I am thinking of lowering does to 0.5MG a day. What should I expect? Will I maintain or loose my hair?

I have seen some graphs but can't find them. It showed the effect of finasteride at different levels. Anyone have this?

Lowering dose likely wont make much, if any diff. The drug has a near flat dose response so taking 0.25 vs .5, 1mg or 5 mg inhibits nearly the same amount of DHT.

Really you should get bloodwork to see what's up with your body at this stage, since obviously your hormones are out of whack and you likely have extremely high Estrogen levels at the moment.

Check for:

Total Testosterone
Free/Bioavailable Testosterone
DHT
Estradiol
LH
FSH
SHBG
Prolactin
Cortisol

Yes I am seeing an Endocologist (hormone specialist) on the 31st.

I am also taking minoxidil followed by 5% spironolactone every morning. Been doing this for ages.

Also taking Revivogen + 1% spironolactone mixed in with it every night. Been doing that for 6+ months

Guys it sucks. For the first time in years people dont even notice my hairloss.

Especially over the last 6 months my hair has been great. I use to get weekly comments from people at work / out clubbing etc... man is your hair falling out etc. Now no-one can tell. not even the hairdresser

To drop the finasteride and watch my hair in a matter of months fall back to how it was 3 years ago will be hell.

The thing I don't understand about the difference between a 1mg dose and a 0.25mg dose is why is there a supposed decrease in side effects if those two doses produce essentially the same reduction in DHT?

I wish I would have known that before. I just ordered a jar of spironolactone from Dr. Lee yesterday :sobbing: I guess I just wasted 40 bones...

Hey Messm0rph,

Not trying to hijack the thread but have you found the spironolactone has worked for you? Any issues with sides? Thanks.

after been on the site for a while and reading all the posts, I have no trust on this Dr. Lee guy whatsoever.

Dude, if you've been on finasteride for three years it doesn't make sense for you to get sides until NOW. It must be something else you're taking.

STOP WITH THE TOPICAL spironolactone RIGHT AWAY! Not only is its effects on hair in the large majority of cases negligible, but it can be absorbed systemically and cause estrogen levels to rise terribly (oral spironolactone does this very effectively).

Plus if you sweat the otherwise odorless spironolactone cream will give away its characteristic (terrible) odor.

See:

http://www.hairlosshelp.com/Qna/Detail. ... word=spironolactone

P.S. Mr. Bernstein is one of the best hair transplant surgeons in the world! He's moreover very conservative and would never do a hair transplant on someone under 25. Listen to him about meds. He's an expert. Not like Mr. Lee with his numerous daily unproven claims (including the spironolactone cream).

Does topical spironolactone convert testosterone effectively enough to cause negative effects? Anyone?

In my experiences & reading on the issue, finasteride dosages ARE NOT entirely flat in their effects. The effects are hitting disproportionately in the smaller dosages for sure, but that does not mean there's no difference between 1/4 and 1/2 and 1 whole milligram.

The effects get smaller the higher you raise the dosage. Of course I don't mean the net-total effects, but rather the proportionate gains. Going from 0.25mg ot 0.50mg will give less than twice as much effect. Going up to 1.00mg has less than twice as much effect as the 0.50mg did, etc.
