I have just jumped on 1mg finasteride as of 2 days ago and would like to know your personal experience on finasteride, I've read some really bad s*** on this about it but also some extremely positive ones.

What are the actual chances of side affects? Dermatologist was real quick and didn't seem to answer many of my questions the way in which he should have unfortunately. Please help ! Thank you

Side effects are uncommon as they only occur in a small percentage of people who take finasteride and for the most part are reversible once you stop taking the drug if you were to get any side effects. You probably shouldn't have read up about the horror stories and such as you're way more likely to get psychological side effects rather than physical side effect IMO. Just take a pill each day and don't think about it too much and you should be fine.

Best case scenario - You maintain/regrow your hair.

Worst case scenario - You get side effects and stop taking it.

However, there's also a chance finasteride will have no effect on you and a year down the line you could still be losing hair. I'd be more worried about that possibility rather than uncommon reversible side effects.

Finasteride blocks DHT ( Dihydrotestosteron).

The most people don't understand what DHT is doing with you.

DHT is important for the development of the penis ( Fetus and teenager time) .

When the process is finished DHT will have just bad characteristics.

When you get older you will lose your hairs on your Head and you will become new hair in your nose, ears and many other places where you don't want new hairs:D

Some people like you and me are more sensitive for DHT then other people.

My doctor is a specialist for male pattern baldness. He was many time in the tv.

He told me finasteride works very very fine and a very rare % of people develop side effects.
He has 1000 of 1000 patients and the most of them have 0 side effects.

I come from a country with very very strict provisions ( Mediaction + health official)

If finasteride where really dangerous they would remove it from the medications list!

We could write a book about finasteride knowledge on this forum. Depends what you wanna hear i think. Just set your brain and body like something gonna be changed and try to adapt yourself on finasteride. Some people just cant handle that instanst hormone drop. Well, i am on finasteride (8 months+)and obviously sometimes i feel that i am on it. Noticed much of side effects included low libido plenty of times, but mostly they are temporary. But i prefer anynone to take finasteride before sleep. Taking it at 7 am every day just made me zombie all days somehow.
But all side effects noticed after 5 months i think, and keeping experiencing them only month. - Thats why i am taking 1mg of finasteride before sleep. Good Luck.

If you've just started taking it, asking people to share horror stories is probably a bad strategy. That's a good way to develop psychological sides

You are maybe one of the 10 % without any effects.

Finasteride is not a miracle cure.It slows down the hair loss

Some people have a slow effect some an amazing effect:

Lol when did I say it has no effect on me?

My hair loss hasn't progressed since I've been on it, but I'm also on Minoxidil

My loads are also like half water

I'm in somewhat of a similar position myself. I've been taking finasteride for around 9 months now with little to no progress, although I don't shed as much hair so perhaps it's working but it doesn't seem any thicker, maybe even slightly worse than prior to starting.

Have you not even maintained your hair whilst on finasteride? If you're 100% sure that you're still losing ground after 2 years and haven't had any side effects, you might be best off starting dutasteride. I'm not too familiar with dutasteride myself, all I know is that it blocks even more DHT than finasteride, ask around because there's plenty of people on here who are on dutasteride.

Your regime says 5mg of finasteride at night and 1mg of finasteride in the morning, is this true? If so that is why.

There are so many studies about finasteride and in 90 % of all cases it stopps hair loss.
65 % +/- hair grow back.

Also true is you will never have hairs like a teenager .

I haven't noticed any side effects myself and I have been using it. I think the shedding over all has slowed down quite a bit but the hair growth isn't where I'd like it to be. But who am I kidding, I would like to snap my fingers and have it all grow back lol

So updating you all on my progression with the big 3.(not including biotin)

Nizarol 2% 1-2 a week shower
Finasteride 1mg every morning
Minoxidil twice a day morning and night
Biotin tablet once a morning

It is now nearly 5 months into it all and I do have some progression photos.

As I'm entering into my fifth month, these are the things that I have noticed whilst taking the drug finasteride,

- loss lobido
- hairs are still shedding (which apparently is normal and the drug is working) <--- in saying that the mental side of things it's freaking me out massively that it's still shedding at maybe a less slower rate than before and the shedding should ease down by the 5-7 month mark.

I have no issues with my sex life if anything it's the same as before morning wood and all. It's all in your head in that department

My hair has gotten thicker yes however my crown seems to be growing new hairs according to my dr however I must remain patient and keep at it until a year and hopefully see some remarkable results.

The photo I have taken are from October 2016 and now February 2017. I don't see much change at all but maybe I'm just paranoid

I'd also like to mention I do wear a hard hat all day at work ( construction ) and I sweat vigorously which in turn is also playing mind games with me in my hair loss but reading these forums has fucked with my brain a little, I'm just trying to help out the community because this should never happen in your 20s. 30s I wouldn't give a sh*t.

But in conclusion, I'm still a bit iffy with the whole drug and how it's going. I see my hair dr once every blue moon and my next appointment is in March so I'll update you all then. But hoping for the best, finasteride has a success rate of 87% in stopping all hair loss (according to American study of 15,000 men) and 67% in re producing new hairs.

Head up to all the men out there going through this ordeal. I'm always with you all so keep me posted if there's anything I can do to help
