Just started using finasteride 0.5 mg daily and i'm trying to avoid sides as much as possible.. so i'm trying to raise testosterone levels by going to the gym, zinc 50 mg daily, and just ordered horny goat weed to keep on good erection quality.. finasteride 0.5 mg supposed to block that amounts of testosterone? Thanks!

Supplementing zinc can result in copper deficiency. Getting micro nutrient levels checked first is a good idea.

Here’s the deal man. There are so many factors at play. The older and less “vital” you are the less noticeable Finasteride effects will be. Raising testosterone I don’t believe will do anything as it’s a lack of DHT specific testosterone not testosterone in general that has the negative effects. Testosterone levels aren’t altered just the transformation of testosterone to DHT.

So i can go wild with raising my T level and 0.5 mg finasteride will do his magic anyway?
Raising T levels will barely mitigate finasteride side effects. Finasteride destroys the chemical (5-alpha reductase) that converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a much stronger version of testosterone that plays a key role in libido and masculinization, and it also causes hair loss.

I wouldn't recommend you take that much zinc.

I don't know why so many zinc supplements are "50 mg per day". It's a very high amount. I researched it a long time ago and too much zinc can definitely cause toxicity over time.

Here are the standard maximum daily zinc amounts recommended:

Maybe if you want more zinc you could do 20-30 mg daily, plus whatever you get from your diet. There are lots of 10 mg zinc supplements out there. I don't think you should keep taking 50 mg per day forever. You could damage yourself with that.

I just get the 10 mg zinc in my multivitamin per day.

Yes my feelings as well. My feeling is clearly most of these 2% side effects were in older men. Not sure there’s a Doctor in here but would love to know how eliminating DHT could NOT effect a young man? It’s basically eliminating the testosterone that makes you vital.
