Finasteride 0.5 mg, does it make a difference?

I'm pretty scared about the sides from finasteride so my friend who's taking it suggested I take 0.5 instead of 1mg a day. But I was wondering, is that enough to make any difference?

I got great results with 0.5mg.

Yeah you will.

Studies have shown effect on doses as low as 0.2mg/day.
The best effect, though, was seen in most users with 1mg.
No difference in hair growth between 1mg and 5mg.

If I decide to try finasteride, could i possibly avoid the sexual sides if i start on 0,25 for, let's say, 4 weeks and then go up to 0,5 for a few months, snd later 1mg? Or doesn't it work like that? I just figured it would be less shock/change for my body. What do you think?
