finasteride 0.25 mg

my hairline has gradually weakened over the last 5 years (now 30). I have been against using propecia and have slowed down my hair loss substantially I believe with minoxidil, tricomin etc etc. I think it's getting to the stage though where I need to give it a go. I'm still Norwood 2 but have diffused thinning all over my frontal regions. I considered using RU but am now thinking about a low dose of finasteride 0.25 mg per day. It seems to be as effective in lowering DHT as 1 mg (and 5mg) and am hoping it will reduce the chance of sides. Has anyone had success with this type of dose? Any sides?

Thanks

It is 5% less effective, will not reduce sides(at least no more than by 5%). However i wonder if it can reduce the possibility of permanent sides.

I was on dosages even lower than 0.25 mg every couple of days and i have ended up with permanent side effects. I don't think it makes that much difference. Worth a try though.

I say go for it. I'm a fan of easing into the medication so your body can get used to it. I regrew and maintained on .5mg for over 3 years before increasing it up to 1.25mg.

Went to propeciahelp for a last review. RU it is then!!

Sorry to hear that the fearmongers got to you. Same thing happened to me when I was 22. Scared me away from finasteride for about 2 years. Those 2 years are the reason why I now have a thin spot on my crown :-/

Ahhhh who to believe! To be fair I will be 30 in january and am still NW2 so i don't think I'm as sensitive to DHT as some of the guys who experience major thinning at a young age. I'll run RU with my current regime for 6 months an review then maybe start a lose dose of finasteride.

Ha ha ha. You can tell that you are sh*t scared of propecia by the way you talk about it. Hopefully you come down with some of the horrific side effects many men are living with permanently.

Wait...what? Ya, I WAS scared shitless of finasteride, until I sat down and did some actual thinking about the whole thing. The risk was small enough for me, and the reward was great enough. I've been on it for over 3 years now.

Are you wishing harm on me by saying that you hope I get horrific sides?

What scumbag you are. Wishing that on someone.

You took the chance, it was YOUR choice to take finasteride, you knew the risks, unfortunately for you, you fell into the 1-2% that got adverse affects.

Disgusting behaviour.

Joe obviously has something to gain by fearing others away from finasteride,
basically some people get sides some dont but i can not understand why you would come on a forum and preach to others,....
would you do the same to weed smokers? smoking weed has alot more side effects than finasteride, but i dont see people scaring the life out of weed smokers ???

Timi - i am i the only one that see contradictions in your posts ???
you say you have been on finasteride for years and its the best thing you have done
and then you turn round and say its given you sides, sorry if i am reading it wrong but you seem very undecided with your posts

if you want to take finasteride , do it .... if not then dont !!!!!!!
no one has a gun to your head forcing you to do or dont,
the choice is down to you
know that there are possible sides with this drug along with any other medicine consumed , and make sure your decision is a well thought and researched one

i have been on finasteride for over 1 year now - just wish i started sooner....

Talk about being duped. I know people that have smoked cannabis since they were 14 and they do very well in all areas of life. I know of one guy who went off the rails after beginning to smoke cannabis, he quit and a month later he was fine.

You cannot compare cannabis to finasteride - a powerful medication that alters levels of the critical male hormone DHT and will stunt the development/ damage a male fetus.

Go ahead, trust Merck. A company that killed thousands of people and couldn't care less.

Propeciahelp, two university studies, a suicide on the news, a well known reputation to cause permanent impotence in Sweden all must exist for no reason. Yeah right.

@Irishfella

Wrong. I was completely unaware of persistent side effects even after quitting the drug. Merck only updated there prescription information in the last 6 months to account for persistent 'erectile dysfunction'. They are still missing off the neurological effects that have ruined my life and so many others.

You are right, i do have something to gain from spreading awareness about the dangers of finasteride. I can stop more men from having there lives completely ruined by the drug.

It just makes me laugh when people use "a suicide on the news" as an argument against finasteride. How many people have taken it in the last 13 years? Over a million? Sorry, but you quoting "a suicide" isn't going to make me scared.

I started taking Propecia 1mg when I turned twenty-one, experienced low sex drive and watery semen. I called it quits after two years. It did halt my hairloss but I couldn't deal with the sides. It took about three months for all the sides to go away. I'm thirty-four now and my libido is great so I have had no long-term effects from it.

Again, I'm NOT dismissing the suicide at all...just attempting to point out that everything in life has risks. If you avoid everything because of a risk, then you'd have to shut yourself inside and never leave your house.

Trying to save your hair is a big deal to many people....but how hard is walking up a flight of steps? This guy probably decided it would be easier to take an escalator. Too bad it killed him
