Finally got a prescription for propecia

Hi i am an 18 years old, i just visited my doctor 1hour ago and guess what he gave me propecia but the name is sandoz finasteride 5mg, he is bald (hes about 50) so he understood everything i said to him he knew about treatments and all, he said to me that these treatments dont really works but i think i should give it a try i am sitting at 2.5nw with overall thining, i hope that i can see some regrowth i started balding at 14 , i asked him also about side effects he said there isn't something much dangerous, and he gave me minoxidil 5% overall i am happy that i am going to start the treatment finally, oh yeah and i asked him about nizoral he said that its doesn't really work vs male pattern baldness

My parents are against the treatment, my father is bald, but finally they agreed with me so i just need to go to take the prescription
probably gonna bump this thread in 3 months if i continue the treatment if no strange sides....
i am telling to anyone who is balding to try atleast if you get sides quit its simple thats what i am going to do

Congrats man, best of luck! He's wrong about these treatments not working. They do work well for prevention and can give some good regrowth as long as you don't expect miracles. The side effects too are real for a small but significant proportion of users.

thanks man it was time to start it, i have big forehead xD, what are side effects that will mostly occur ? so i am better prepared oh and when i start i will block word propecia on my internet so i dont get some side effects only on my head xd

Do you have older brothers, do they have hair loss ? And what about your maternal grandpa, is he bald or when he started to bald ?

Yes, Propecia will slow or even maybe halt progression of your hair loss. Since, you started balding at 14, you have sensitive hair which means if you already have very low levels of DHT neither Propecia or Avodart would do too much.

My recommendation is to add some topical anti androgen (for example spironolactone) beside minoxidil.

good advice Ventures, a multifaceted approach is best, combine DHT production inhibition with follicular binding site inhibition.

The most severe sides are erectile dysfunction and gynecomastia. Milder symptoms include reduced libido, dull ball ache and most commonly watery semen.

I dont have any brother, my father is nw4 at 44 with difuse thinning but he started going bald at 18 so he have still this nw4 patternt with diffuse thinning, my grandpa on my moms side was not bald neither on my father's side, i had from birth natural thin hair, i am just thinning out at temples and in front, but my recession is very slowi buzzed my hair and its same that was at 15 xD maybe a slight recession just a slight, i had beard at 14-15 also but it didn't had very big evolution , my theory that i was bursted with hormones and damaged my hair, i am fairly muscural.. there are always hair in my desktop i am surprised how i am not nw6 as now lol.
I didn't understand the sentence there ? if i have low DHT propecia wouldn't do too much ?
my main purpose is to stop the hairloss and maybe regain a bit of hairline, i live actually in Belgium so i have no idea where to get spironolactone but will search
but the brothers of my fathers are all bald 2 of them they have slow recession as my father takes ages

about the sides well i don't fear them if i see some of the severe sides i am probably going to stop reducing the chance of keeping them after treatment, personally i don't think that 1 week can ruin your system with low doses, how about people who drink 5mg, going to try 0.6mg about week if no sides going 1.25mg

What he meant was, if your DHT is already low then propecia will give you lowered sex drive without too much help on your hair.

You said you mother's father has hair though, which means maybe your DHT is higher but follicles are more resistant, so I think you should have success.

thanks man my fathers on mom's side is dead but had hair till 50, on the other side the other grandpa has still hair in his 85 wtf
