Hi everyone. This is my first topic. Forgive me if it's been covered before. I did a search and it came up with nothing.
I was alerted that I was "thin on top" by a rude (but unfortunately correct) hairdresser back in February and immediately went to see my dermatologist. I asked him how he would classify me, expecting him to reference the Norwood Scale, but instead he said that I would be the lowest type on the Ludwig Scale! At first, I suspected that he might not know what he was talking about, but after evaluating the situation over the last few months, I'm beginning to think that I do, in fact, have female pattern baldness! Just my luck! I'm going bald and don't even get to enjoy a cool Dracula-esque widow's peak!
Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it common? Will the normal treatments still work for me? I've been on Propecia for nearly 6 months (with Nizoral 1% 2x a week) and the situation seems to have gotten somewhat worse as I've been shedding like crazy. I also have very long hair (gimme a break, I'm a metalhead) and wonder if this might have something to do with it. I've always had a natural part somewhat off center and this seems to be where the thinning is concentrated. My father is a diffuse thinner as far as I can tell, but that didn't start until much later (I'm 27) and he chalked it up to the antidepressants he was on for a while.
Any advice/anecdotes would be greatly appreciated! I love having long hair and this development has really been bringing me down.
