As a woman, I would like to know how to determine if a female is a good candidate for a hair transplant.

Is it true that not all females are good candidates?

Also: how does one maintain what one has after the transplant? Is minoxidil necessary?

Great questions. It is important for women to have a comprehensive diagnostic examination to properly diagnose the cause or causes of hair loss. That will help determine if they are a good candidate for surgical hair restoration. And yes, it is true that not all women (nor men) are good candidates for hair transplant surgery. I recommend scheduling a hair loss consult with a board certified physician to determine if you are a candidate. There are a few key factors the doctor will need to consider. In this video, Dr. Wolfeld explains what makes a woman a good candidate for a hair transplant. https://goo.gl/xcbckc

Medical treatment can help stall the process of further hair loss for hairs that are genetically susceptible to miniaturization. Medication is not necessary for the transplanted hair to grow.
