Fast Reactivity To Minoxidil And Finesteride Question

Hey guys,

I've just started applying Rogaine, and I know the first signs are extreme hairloss, so I'm not getting scared.

I do have two questions thoughts;

First - The shedding has started rather fast, like barely a month in, does that mean my scalp is reacting well to the treatment and could possible mean faster results?

Second - I'm not taking Finesteride, not out of side effects fear or anything, but simply because it's more expensive here in Portugal. If I have a good response to Minoxidil, should I still consider Finesteride? And would starting Finesteride mid-way the Minoxidil treatment cause again hairloss for short period?

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey man, i started shedding 2 weeks into minoxidil for almost 3 weeks and then it gradually stopped. I am 2 and a half months in and i definitely have regrowth, i feel some of my hair is thickening too. I wouldnt worry too much about finasteride right now, i tried it for a year before minoxidil and it didnt work, just made me recede faster! There was 'recent' information that minoxidil does infact affect the androgen receptors which is probably plays a part in its unknown mechanism of hair restoration. You shouldnt see any big results until 6 months in, then at a year for its full effect.

Are you really sure that the finasteride made you recede faster?

Maybe it was aggressive male pattern baldness. It can be unpredictable.

I wouldn't have believed something like that could happen on finasteride if it didn't happen to me. I am positive, i started going bald at 14 and i got on treatments at 19.. my hair loss through that period was very slow but once i jumped on finasteride literally all my temple hair dissapeared and my hairline went back more fast. Im 99% sure it was the finasteride, there are lots of stories of this happening to people so it can and does happen. Ive even provided pics of the damage it done on here.

Yup, except for 2 or 3 days when i freaked out when i saw what it was doing to my hair, some guys on here convinced me to stay with it and i did ever since. But of course i got worse and none of the hair grew back. As of 2 weeks today i have been taking it every other day to ween myself off it, will drop it completely in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I'll hold on meds for now. I'll see how minoxidil acts. I'm not expecting results yet, I know it takes a few months, but I was hoping that the fact I'm shedding faster would also mean faster regrowth.

You mentioned that it caused your hair to be thicker, which is awesome. Does minoxidil do that or it just happened to you?

I started shedding pretty fast and crazy when I started using minoxidil. It's been ~a month now and shedding is somewhat slowing.
