What happens after 5 years? Like does it just dip below baseline and you have no hair left?

Say you started balding at 18 and you are now 22 does that mean you have 1 year of effectiveness left? Or will it continue to slow the loss but you will still lose hair?

propecia should continue to slow hair loss for as long as you take it but everyone responds differently, there are people on here who have maintained for well over 10 years and then there's others who have seen no benefit. Even if it stops working at least you have delayed things and there are alternatives that work.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I knew it works differently for everyone. I read over on another hair loss forum a guy claiming he had never seen pics of a guy going from NW2 to NW7 that had constantly been on finasteride. Even if they progressed Norwood levels they were never slick bald.

You can plainly see from the graph that the difference in haircounts between people who use finasteride and people who don't use finasteride continues to increase over the years, it doesn't decrease. Do we have to draw you a picture? Oh wait...we DID draw you a picture!! :)

Obviously, it continues to slow the loss over the years, even if haircounts drop a little.

Gotcha, thanks!

BTW, I'm cutting the pills up to 1.25 mg would it make much difference if I tried to cut them into 1 mg?

Nope. Finasteride has a pretty "flat" dose-response, and the difference in efficacy between 1 mg and 1.25 mg would be microscopic. Besides, you'd probably lose more finasteride just by having bits of the tablet crumble away, just in the attempt to cut it into five (instead of four) pieces.
