Expect a shed with just finasteride?

what's up guys? I've done a lot of reading aroud the site but wanted to chime in to say hello and ask a question.

I'm new to starting my battle against hair loss. I would say it's been a good 3 years since I first noticed thining at the temples when I had buzzed my hair and am now at a norwood 2. I saw a derm and he gave me propecia but I have yet to actually start it. I'm not all that interested at regrowing at this point so I'm just going to use finasteride/nizoral. My question is, if I use propecia only should I expect a serious shed in the first few weeks on it? I wouldn't expect it as it's not causing a forced regrowth, only the reduction of dht damaging he follicle(for lack of a better term) however i've seen a lot of reports on here that say otherwise. What do all of you informed members think?

Also, tricromin, yay or nay?

There is absolutely no way of knowing whether a shed will occur or not. Many people here have been on Finasteride for a good while without shedding; although they don't tend to make four different posts asking whether it's normal or not.

(For the records, I've been on Finasteride, Minoxidil and Nizoral since 20/1 without a shed. I'm not even able to pull the hair out of my scalp with force.)

In other words - you should not expect a shed, but at least be prepared for one.

Thanks for the reply pbz! I'm hoping the finasteride works as advertised in my case. The areas which have thinned are stilll covered by those thin vellus hairs so I'm hoping with prolonged use they grow back fuller and thicker.
I'm going to start up .5 mg per day to help offset cost and hopefully reduce the possible amount of side effects.

Hey hold on a minute here. I have been on propecia for 7 weeks now and my girlfriend has to get the hoover in the bathroom to clear up the mess my monster shed is causing. Lucky i have good hair and am only on a maintaining mission or id be a Norwood 20000 in record time. Im p issing my knickers thinking that i have made things worse by getting on propecia and nizoral. It better grow back or i reckon is peach fuzz hair transplant time for me :freaked:

Yikes! It's posts like this that have me worried. At the same time I figure that by not doing anything it's only going to get worse...even though it's been a slow progression for me so far! But even if you were to lose a bunch of hairs to a shed they will grow back, stronger than before, so you are just trading a short term thinning for a longer term improvement instead of short term better looking hair for long term thinning...

On the plus side for me i always keep my hair short(1 inch, #8 guard) so I won't be doing too much hair counting as they are short and not really noticeable anyway.

I think it is safe to say that most people on finasteride will go through so sort of shed. but look at it this way, you are going to loose that hair anyways at least with finasteride you stand a better chance of growing it back.
