Been noticing my scalp has been shiny for a few months now ever since my scalp has been raping me with itchy sensations .. I've now quit finasteride for almost a week and my itch is less severe as well as dandruff ... I honestly believe my scalp is so shiny cause of how often I shampoo my hair almost everyday since my scalp became itchy .. Shampooing doesn't help at all and actually makes my scalp shiny .. What your thoughts of not shampooing for a week just wash with water ? Back in the day when I had no hairloss I would never shampoo maybe only once a week I think my scalp is accustom to this ... My scalp is brighter then my future this saddens me

Hey Brother,
Take it from me, please don't go from one extreme to another. First off, IF finasteride was truly causing itching and irritation, and you've concluded this, I agree that you should have dropped it. Find ONE solid shampoo that has been time tested by other posters here. I personally like anything with nizoral, argan oil, peppermint oil, etc... Perhaps nizoral 2% a couple times a week may work for you. People also recommend regenepure. I had excessive sebum production, like you. It was 100% because I washed my hair every day. It is simply a response from your glands. You are stripping the scalp of oils regularly, so your body responds with producing more. Once every other day is perfect. Rinse your hair under cold water, and apply some minoxidil foam while your scalp is still damp. Go about your day and forget about it.

I recommend getting a shampoo that's not just ketoconazol, but has a variety of other things that condition, and strengthen the hair fiber. I have tried so many of them. My favorite is called, "the big three". No idea why they call it that, but it does indeed make my scalp feel better, also less shiny and dry. The shine is from your scalp being super dry. An hour before you shampoo, try rubbing some emu oil through your hair and scalp. This is good for inflammation and dryness as well.

What about tea tree oil that's what I have currently .. Should I apply the oil once everytime after a shower even on non shampoo days ? Wouldn't applying an oil make your scalp even more shiny ?

Tea tree is GREAT for itching issues ! I'd say, add it to your shampoo and leave it for a few minutes. You can also add a few drops to your daily topical, if any. The essential oil smell goes away.
Peppermint oil on scalp also feels great. :)

Mhh okay. You may want to try aloe vera gel so your scalp keeps being moisturized.
