Excessive hair loss

Hi, I'm only 18 and in the past few months I noticed that I'm losing too much hair, more than normal. I tried to count today how much hair strands fall and I counted around 200-250 strands (might be more). I still don't see any bald parts, I just see that the hair got very thin on the front of the head when I look at it under bright light. If it matters my nutrition is good, I eat fruits, vegetables, meat etc and I workout alot.
My question is, what is the best way to stop the excessive shedding and to keep my hair as it is (not speaking about regrowth)?
I heard about minoxidil but the side effects scare me and that if I'll stop using it my hair will fall excessively again.
I had a very thick hair and now I'm afraid that I'll go bald fast.
Thanks alot

Go and speak to your doctor and see a dermatologist as soon as possible.

Make sure you see the dermatologist! He will know more than your doctor!

Ask him about finasteride and tell him that you want it. He might try to scare you off but insist.

Sure you might get some side effects but they usually only last for a little while. You can start with a low dose.

Minoxidil will be a pain to apply everyday and it leaves your hair greasey.

Your 18 so you probably still have a decent amount of hair so finasteride should help you keep what you have.

You came to the right place. Post your pictures if you can. First you need to confirm it is Androgenetic Alopecia. Although I am thinking you do given excessive hairloss in shower etc; but see a Derm who knows hair issues to examine it thoroughly.

Once, it is confirmed you have Androgenetic Alopecia, then you have options of finasteride. and minoxidil. Read our posts here and familiarize yourself what they do, and what you can expect and what you will have to commit to. Once you have learned more on finasteride. and Minoxidil etc., then post here if you have any questions.
