Excess grooming causes hair loss. Myth?

I have heard from many older people that although periodically cutting your hair stimulates hair growth, cutting it too often is detrimental to it's growth. One pharmacist told me that hair is much like green grass. If you mow it every two days, it starts to grow slower and die. If you mow it once a month however, it will be stronger than ever. Can anyone attest to this theory?

You should know that's a myth by now, X. :)

Hairloss is a process of miniturization - the root gets smaller and smaller. Cutting the hair has no effect on the root. The hair on the sides don't get no thinner no matter how often you trim, now does it? :)

Hair and grass have nothing in common. Cutting grass too often can lead to soil drying up along with organic mulch. Also it reduces surface area for photosynthesis. Not cutting it often enough can lead to fungus, mold and other grass related diseases. Hair is basically dead. It's your follicle that is alive. Hair growth factors are usually internal not external. I guess maybe if your hair is too short and your scalp burns often or your hair is too long and it doesn't dry quickly you can end up with scalp problems that affect hair condition. I know more about grass than hair obviously  . Axon brought up a great point about the sides of the head. I have mine clipped on #2 every few weeks and they are really thick.
