Type two alpha five reductase (the type propecia inhibits at a 90% clip) is found within the:

hair follicle itself (in the outer root sheath),
prostate,
beard,

Type one alpha five (that dutasteride inhibits at a 58% or more clip, depending on what youre reading as well as 98% of type two) is located:

scalp skin,
sebaceous glands,
chest skin,
back skin,
liver,
adrenal gland,
kidneys.............................

Most of your body's DHT is of the type 1-created variety, not the type 2. The type 2, made in the innermost layer of the outer root sheath.................is what is the initial cause of hairloss. If you dont have it, you never go bald. As years pass, apparently the hair develops a sensitivity to just plain testosterone also. Dutasteride works better than propecia in all probability primarily because of its better inhibition of type 2 (98%) than finasteride

This info was in the Dr. David Whiting article in the hairloss library here at hairsite. Thought it would be good info for newbies researchin' on the forum.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the great info you have been posting. What is your hairloss situation and regimen?

Good luck.
