has been from the front third of my scalp, so while you may say shedding 50-100 a day is normal, how normal is it when you violently rub the back of your head and pull to get nothing, but a slight run of my hands through my hairline results in many hairs being lost, im really at a loss of what to do, propecia better kick in quick or ill have to start shaving down to the skin at 18 years old

yea i agree that whole 50-100 hairs a day is a pile of chicken sh*t!
before I had male pattern baldness I rarely see maybe 3-8 hairs in the shower and rarely do i see maybe 1 hair come out when i run my hand through my head.

maybe the 50-100 hairs apply to girls? cause i do notice girls lose more hair on their comb then guys with no male pattern baldness.

The 50-100 hairs shed a day is not a pile of chicken sh*t. If you don't have male pattern baldness, you will probably shed about that many on a daily basis(more or less), but its not like you will lose those 50-100 in the shower. Most of it is shed throughout the day without you noticing. Keep in mind that also before male pattern baldness, you weren't super sensitive about your hair and scrutinizing and looking for hairs everywhere.

I've determined that its "normal " for me to lose something like 80 - 100 hairs a day. I can lose that much for months and not see any diff in density. That said its also "normal" for me to go for a while losing 10 or so hairs a day. THAT SAID, its unnormal for me to lose 300 or so hairs for a few weeks, but i've had that happen too.

Check out your pillow the next time your girlfriend stays over. Once i had a look and there was quite a lot of hair there. I was like sh*t, my girlfriend must be shedding from her baldness treatment. Then i realized she's a girl and not going bald, and therefore the 50-100 number probably isn't a conspiracy theory, its how much normal people lose.

Badasshairday makes a valid point...before MBP i never ever even thought once about my hair even if i saw it on my pillow....now im a*** about it plus now im always looking at guys hairline seeing if he is in the same ballpark that i am in the thinning process. If it wasnt for this feminization going around i wouldnt even give two shits about having a bald head,id get it waxed along with my shoes.

alrite. I feel that I need to better define the limits of 50-100 hairs.

First When i say losing 50-100 hair I meant seeing 50 hair in the pillow when you wake up or when you take a shower and you see 50-100 hair in the tub. Cause I've noticed lots of ppl who are incorrectly reassuring others who are shedding by saying "Oh.. thats just normal for ppl to see 50-100 hair in the tub or on the pillow, or when ya run your hand through your head and ya see like 5-10 hair everytime. Cause ppl lose 50-100 hair each day even those who do not have male pattern baldness". EERRNNGG Wrong!

Second As I did not count "every" single hair throughout the day that fell out, when I did not have male pattern baldness. So I can not actually deny nor verify the fact that we lose 50-100 hair per day. But I know that I never woke up seeing more than 10 hair on the pillow, and I never saw more than 10 hair in the tub after showering.

before MBP i never ever even thought once about my hair even if i saw it on my pillow....now im a*** about it

Third, my cousin that I grew up with , I go over to his house to chill all the time and he's got great hair not suffering from male pattern baldness at all, I do not notice hardly any maybe no more than 2-3 hair on the pillow. Now as for me no matter how much I try to get all the hair off my bed and pillow , somehow if ya take time and look around u can find atleast 10-20 hair laying around. And yes I understand i never specifically "looked for hair on my pillow or in the tub" But u'd think u'd notice it when you wake up in the morning and first thing u see is a 30 strands of hair all over your pillow, or taking a shower and your hair keeps falling out after you run your hand through it. Theres no way of missing that!! Dont fool yourself.

Yes i've already done that before, infact i've even done the pull test on her. She's a cosmetologist (beautician) so she deals with lots of hairloss sufferes and non-hairlossers, and its great to have a gf who ya can share your male pattern baldness problems wit. Anyways back to subject Girls hair are longer so if lets say a hair falls out, it does not actually leave the head. It gets stuck with the rest of her hair until she either runs her hand through her hair, or washes it or combs it. So it might seem like she's losing lots of hair, but inreality she's losing a small percentage to ours, but nevertheless I'm sure you didn't see like 20-30 hair all over the pillow in the morning or she loses more than 20 hair in the tub when she showers. If she did... i'd refer her to the girls section on this site :(

So my point is ppl stop saying "oh its normal to lose that much hair" when ppl are actually going through a shed. If you did lose 50-100 hair a day most likely you would'nt notice more than 5 hair here or 7 hair there. But when ppl start complaining bout seeing 30-4 hair all at once at one spot then they are losing the hair! and its not NORMAL!!![/b]

Of course, male pattern baldness is a process of miniturization and not fallout.

your straying away from the subject there axon.. :)

We are talking about the amount of fallout .

Yes I agree with you about what you just said,
but excessive fallout is also a proccess of male pattern baldness, or regrowth, or some type of alopecia resulted from cemotherapy, or Telogen Effluvium.

We are just discussing that "Normal ppl dont lose great amounts of hair".

Uh huh. Fallout has little to do with male pattern baldness, it's when the root shrinks that you begin to have a problem. Telogen Effluvium, Chemo: those things are health related and are generally reversable. Though I agree with your statement.

Frankly, if you're seeing 50 hairs here and there, yeah, you're shedding more hairs than normal. No question there. I've never had a shed, so I can't say what it's like from experience, but I do know the feeling of being a Norwood 1.5 and feeling like a Norwood 7.

But still, the simple fact remains - you still have a root hair! It will grow back, you do not go bald in one cycle from male pattern baldness. Doesn't happen. Will not happen. Oh, there are some freaks on these sites who claim that does happen, but it is not possible. The only way to remove the root hair, even in some cases from slick bald areas, is through surgery. Period. When your root hair starts shrinking and looking thin, then you're fucked.

That's why I rage out on people who say they sheds hairs and never grow them back - bullshit.

I've been on propecia for two years in July. At the begining of treatment I was a Norwood 1.5 or 2 going on 3. 2 years later I'm a Norwood 1.5 or 2 going on 3. This is down to propecia, no doubt. But, during those two years I have had at least 5 bad sheds and the reason for those sheds?

sebborheic dermatitis

Propecia, or any treatment, cannot and will not work if your scalp is under the control of seb derm. It has been the toughest part of this battle by far. Summer is here now and this is the WORST time for me because the sun roasts my head and brings the seb derm on. Last August was the worst shed, this year I'll be ready. Without seb derm I would have lost nothing more, no more hairs on pillows, in bath, anywhere.

So for those who are on propecia and are still waiting for results, the result is maintenance. You will only get maintenance if your scalp has no trace of seb derm, even a slight tingle is enough to f*ck everything up.

I've had regrowth from Propecia. Not huge, but enough to make a difference.

So, is a regimen of Nizoral 2% about 3X a week and a good shampoo and conditioner on the other days enough to combat this? finasteride made my scalp terribly flaky, but in the two weeks I've been using nizoral, the flakes have decreased dramatically, as well as the itching.

Just out of curiousity, what are you doing differently this year than last, now that you say you're "ready for it"?

Seb Derm is a condition that can affect many areas of the body. In my case it comes in the form of oiliness of the face and scalp. My face has always been very greasy, since I was about 14. When male pattern baldness kicked in age 20, my scalp got incredibly greasy, which accelerated the hairloss a great deal.

My scalp can get very greasy, itchy, red, sore, flaky, I get itchy spots... Sound familiar to anyone?

With a combination of ketsugo (oily skin spray) and nizoral (ketoconazole is a known treatment for it) I can keep it under control most of the time. Summer is bad, the sun seems to irritate my scalp, make me sweaty, dehydrated and generaly cause me problems.

What am I doing this year that's different?

July 23rd - September 3rd I shall not be leaving the house. Yes, best stay in... But seriously, make sure I am stocked up on shampoo e.t.c, wash my hair in morning and at night (i get lazy in summer and sleep in - messes up my routine and I miss showers). I'll be working most of it so staying out of the sun should not be a major problem anaway.
