Estrogen from using finasteride making me gain more fat?

Hey guys,

So I've been on 1.25mg proscar every other day and I sort of feel like I'm storing a bit more in the gut. I'm extremely cut and shredded with a solid diet. I have read some things about finasteride increasing estrogen because DHT isn't there to block it. How much merit is there on this issue? What's the consensus? What if anything, can I do (aside from continuing to exercise heavily) to mitigate this?

Than you in advance!

Thanks for the reply. It is a bit worrying indeed. I mean, I can't imagine anyone being okay with gaining more fat, especially around the ab and love handle region. Anyone else have any input? Any studies or personal stories? Maybe some supplements can negate the increase in estrogen?

It shouldn't be that much of a problem, as long as your testosterone is higher than the estrogen, a bit of extra estrogen should not keep you that out of whack.

Weight training will be your friend, not cardio (but still practice this for good cardio-vascular health).

I experienced this as well when I was on finasteride. My body went back to normal after I stopped finasteride, which I took for years.

Hey Location1, can you be a bit more explicit? So you gained weight in general or specific places?

Hello Guys, this is what happens when testosterone level decreases in Body.
This mechanism is from Klinefelter syndrome but this mechanism is same in almost all conditions dealing with decreased testosterone levels.
The pic is of Text from Gynecology by Dr Sakshi Arora..
If you want further explanation,i can explain you.

When Testosterone level decreases causes negative feedback that increases FSH from hypothalamus that stimulate Leydig cells of Testes(bilateral name of Testis) to Androstenedione formation that is peripherally converted into increased Estrogen, that can cause gyanaecomastia and other effects of Estrogen.

You aren't losing testosterone though? Your testosterone actually increases when using Finasteride. You are decreasing DHT - a substract of Testosterone.

Androstenedione is always present in the body in nanogram levels,it is sex hormone produced by leydig cells.May be it have action on that, this is too complex thing.Testosterone is linked with high sex drive still people feels low in sex on Finasteride.I haven't read Testosterone levels increased by how much in my books, never believe in Internet.
