Eliminating gluten may help?

Have just recently been on a strict gluten free diet now and have noticed a lot less hair fall out. I would normally run my hands through my hair and expect to see approx 3 strands, now I'm not seeing any at all. I've googled around and have noticed a link between gluten and the auto immune problem with alopecia. I don't have it, but believe there is some truth to the idea of gluten exacerbating male pattern hair baldness. Going gluten free I've noticed a huge improvement in mood, mental clarity and not feeling any stress at all. So perhaps it's a mediating factor, eliminating gluten, reducing perceived stress, halting hair loss? Not too sure, any body else have any ideas on the topic of gluten elimination diets?

It's possible that you have Celiac disease.

Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance. Celiac disease is a medical condition where gluten (a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye grains) damages the small intestines and causes systemic symptoms by cross-reacting antibodies that attack various cells in the body, including hairfollicles.

Also, on a more credible site:
Other problems that can develop over time because the intestines do not absorb key nutrients include:
  • Easy bruising
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Growth delay in children
  • Hair loss
  • Itchy skin with a rash (dermatitis herpetiformis)
  • Missed menstrual periods
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Muscle cramps and joint pain
  • Nosebleeds
  • Seizures
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
  • Unexplained short height
