Hey Guys,
In my teens I had quite thick hair, but at around 18 I noticed slight thinning (I was stressing out over getting into college at that time). So I went to see a dermatologist and she quickly told me I had signs of male pattern baldness after all my blood work came back normal. So I started rogaine til now (I am 22 now). It didn't really do much so I stopped using it. My biggest mistake was that I didn't track my hair loss since I noticed the thinning back when I was 18. So its hard to say how much hair I lost. But I'm sure its nothing super aggressive as some of you have had. So just for the hell of it, I decided to calculate how much grafts I would need to return to my teenage hairline. I've heard people say that you can get an idea of where you teenage hairline was at by contracting the muscles on your forehead. Based on this I found that I would need 586 (total of about 1200grafts) grafts on each side beginning from my temples to the midpoint of my hairline to restore my hair at a density of 70cm2. But I don't know if this density suffices to create the illusion of density. I've read that you only need 50% of the original density to create the illusion of a full head of hair. If this is true then this density would be enough assuming I have a natural density of 140cm2, but idk if I do. But, I've also read that hair caliber is more important than density. If that's the case I have no idea how I would determine my hair caliber. But at any rate, my plan is this. If I maintain the hair I have for the next 3-5 years than I could proceed with a hair transplant when I am somewhere between 25-30 years old. In the mean time I use Azelaic Acid and RU58841 (I do 1ml every other day to see if I get any sides) to help maintain my hair. Rogaine was useless so I discontinued that. I figure if I can take RU with no sides THEN I can presumably consider taking finasteride. So all rants aside, my question to you guys is do you see any flaws in my thought process? My goal is to maintain for a while and get a hair transplant (hopefully pilofocus works out and then I can possible do it early, but I am not assuming that to be the case). I prepare for the worst but hope for the best. I also wanted to ask you guys does early hairloss indicate a high norwood scale in the future? In terms of that scale I think I am somewhere between a norwood 1 and 2. But I'll let you guys be the judge of that (I've attached pics).
And btw my dad inherited his hair loss (he's a norwood 4ish--with most of his loss at the front--at 58, is that considered a high norwood?) from his moms side because his dad--i inherited his hair texture--has close to a full head of hair even at 80. My moms side has no men with signicant hair loss.
But yeah this post turned out way too long...but if you read through the entire thing I really appreciate. Thanks a lot.
