I have had good results now in my 6th month of Rogaine, but like many blonds (with miniturized hairs), there are plenty of very fine hairs that are on the crown, that you cannot see, and are still getting better with minoxidil.
I only have about 1/4 inch hair on my head, but I decided to dye it black just for kicks. The results are amazing. You can see ALL of the hairs now, and I honestly look like about a Norwood 0.5. All those crown hairs that were the one missing thing (although improved tremendously from minoxidil), are now dark, and you can see the entire head is covered with hair.
I expect minoxidil to continue to bring these hairs up, and make them thicker and darker naturally (afterall, blond is really darker than colorless).
However, I am wondering, is there any long-term effect or damage to the hairs from dying? I am only thinking of doing it maybe twice a month, especially as the blond hair continues to come in and strengthen and darken. I liked doing it just to do somethign different, having shaved my head for three years. The comments from friends and coworkers were like "Wow, you have hair, why do you shave your head anyhow?"
But will dying counter the effects of minoxidil (I think Dr. Lee says no), or damage those hairs? What if I am doing it so infrequently as 1-2 times a month?
