I've been on dutasteride for 4 months now. 5th month started two days ago.. I used finasteride 2 years before but after a year into finasteride, had crazy scalp pain shedding and lost 50% of my hair. Anyway, I shed about 50-60 hairs showering and then another 40 blow drying which is excessive seeing as that takes 30 minutes out of my day lol. But the thing is, my scalp still has that deep itch feeling and the hairs I shed are mixed like crazy in thickness and in size. Some hairs look like my eye lash hairs, some are 1 inch and some are long normal ones.. I'm not sure if I just have chronic Telogen Effluvium from anti androgens and I'm destined to fail with these or what, but I'm sick of reading and trying to guess so id rather see if this is normal or if my male pattern baldness is just super aggressive and doesn't respond to dutasteride.

my mid scalp is pretty diffuse now compared to where I was before treating. I have pictures, but I'm not uploading them yet until I hear from some dutasteride-ers.

I have been shedding like crazy these last couple weeks and I have been on dutasteride for the same amount of time as you. I have aggressive diffuse male pattern baldness. I just jumped onto swiss' regimin(what I can afford) and it might be worth it for you to give it shot if you feel dutasteride isn't working well for you.

I've been on dutasteride for about 6 months and my shedding only recently stopped maybe a month ago. I thought I was shedding so much because I stopped and restarted minoxidil a few times but dutasteride might just cause a long shed for some people. I'd say stick with it for another month or two.

When you say it stopped, you mean slowed to about normal? Dude I'm with you, I quit minoxidil last December 2014 and thought it was from that but it's been over a year now lol. I plan on using for 6 months and if I'm still shedding, that's it on AA's.. Do you get any weird sensations on your scalp? Also, you using every day?

My hair loss wasn't aggressive like the until I treated it with meds. The shedding is killing me mentally now after the last 2 years. Swiss' regimen is very extreme, but I am very familiar with it. Not ready to hit all of those angles at the moment because I'm just looking to maintain. I forgot to mention that I use Setipiprant and have been for about two months. Might go topical with it and allow it to act directly where it needs too.

Anyway, this topic is dutasteride though lol

I take .5 mg every day and 2 months ago I started using minoxidil again, 2 ml at night. I also use the ultrax labs shampoo and conditioner. About a month ago the shedding started slowing down and now I see maybe 5 to 10 hairs in my hands when I'm showering. When I was shedding I used to see 50-100 at least.
I don't get any side effect fron dutasteride except it really hurts my stomach if I don't eat before I take it. Good luck with everything!

everyone reacts different to finasteride I believe, my guess is that the finasteride and dutasteride is causing a hormonal imbalance and causing a shock to the system and then causing telogen effluvium, thats just my guess because the same thing you mentioned is happing to me and im still looking for answers. Get some RU

Yeah, that's the only rational guess one can really make. I might just use every other day and if that doesn't help then I RU/CB it is.
