Dutasteride scare

I started using dutasteride over a year ago in attempt to stop my hair loss, at the age of 21. I am on 0.5mg every other day, and have been using shampoos with the key ingredient that Nizoral is know for. My experience with the drug is nothing breath-taking, but it has seemed to slow down my hair loss. A couple of weeks a go I stopped dutasteride for a week as the next delivery was delayed. I also stopped citalopram, which I have taken since January, plus had laser eye surgery.(I have read physical stress can affect the hair) ... After all of this my hair density changed dramatically. I did NOT shed, but definitely noticed a noticable difference in my hair. Diffuse like. I am back on dutasteride and hoping whatever happened will recover. However I am tempted to begin taking it everyday due to aggressive hair loss in the family. Just a little unsure what to do?? Was wondering if some could explain the loss of hair without the shed... And what I should do in regards to the dosage of dutasteride?

So you've only stopped taking dutasteride for 1 week (which comes down to 3 or 4 times 0.5mg as you take it EOD)? I really don't think that will change a lot if anything for your hair status, especially because dutasteride has a really long half life (4-5 weeks) so not taking it for 1 week is probably not a problem. Regarding the other medicin you stopped taking, I have no idea. You could talk to your G.P. about this if you're worried about that.

Are you sure it's not your mind deceiving you? I have that a lot, on sh!tty days my hair looks much worse than on good days. Comparing your current state of your hair to pictures just before starting treatment (if you have those) can put your mind at ease in such a case. If you want you can even upload them on here so that we can evaluate your situation, as someone else is usually more objective about the status of your hair than you are yourself (talking from experience here ).
