Thanks for the replies.. I'm still in the fence with this because of how much hair I lost using finasteride. I developed SD on finasteride probably due to upregulation. The difference between me and you Agustin, is that you seem to have had bad loss and oily skin before treatments whereas I didn't have that. However, it could be because I'm 24 now and it's about the time that people start experiencing male pattern baldness
I'm actually dealing with a similar situation to yours. I'm close to your age and my issues with *heavily* increased sebum (and itching) begun shortly *after* I started using Finasteride (1.25mg - 1/4 Proscar 5mg).
Initially between day 1-5 it seemed to actually calm the situation down a bit, but since 6th day it just went to hell and never stabilized (while using Finasteride).
I experienced little to no sides beside that, but I started to shed a lot of hairs.
After about 3 weeks of dealing with shed, super oily scalp and itch, I was already sure it was counter-productive, so I decided it's time to try Dutasteride.
It took me about 2.5 months since then to get my prescription for Avodart from dermatologist (3 attempts at different people), which was not a bad thing, because I could test Finasteride for a little bit longer.
At 3rd month mark on Finasteride situation has still remained the same, so I finally replaced Finasteride with Avodart 0.5mg, taking it once every 2nd day.
It's my 10th day on Dutasteride (5th cap went today), and it's hard to tell if there's a difference. Itching seems reduced a bit by now, not sure about sebum. It takes about 5-8 weeks for Dutasteride to really kick in, so I'm still living in uncertainty whether this will work or not.
No additional side effects exclusive to Dutasteride by the way for now.
I'm really curious if this could be somehow related to the fact that the bodies of certain individuals can treat 5AR type 1 as a "backdoor" for DHT production when type 2 and 3 are reduced (for example by additionally up-regulating it on top off that).
This doesn't really make sense in general, increased testosterone from 5AR inhibition is way too low to cause stronger effects than DHT before blocking.
