Things dont always work logically or intuitively in the body or medicine. They just work how they work until we figure out another piece contradicting it
Seems odd dutasteride would have lower sides but anything is possible could just be variability in samples.

no, just dutasteride. I just flushed $100 worth of dutasteride down the f*cking toilet and now I am done. It makes no sense that any medication would give you such severe scalp inflammation AND be working at the same time. I am fed up with this garbage.

I realized dutasteride is a very strong drug, even people like me who had been taking finasteride for years triggered Telogen Effluvium. As I said I went through what you're experiencing now, my scalp was on fire. Using keto shampoo seemed to help, but couldn't use more than twice weekly. All these will subside eventually, as it has for me now. But if you can't take dutasteride, at least go back to finasteride. Don't give up, as hair is very important.

Definitely! But medicine is still better than herbs; herbs are even more unpredictable! We should be thankful that we have medicines like finasteride and dutasteride!

I have been on dutasteride for a little over two weeks now. No physical sides. I am getting unusually strong erections in the night which is a sign of increased test. I may quit soon BECAUSE it is f*cking EATING MY SCALP. I have the WORST sensations in my scalp, ever. Along with this, I am losing an unusual amount of hair. Like hundreds a day, and I barely have any hair left!! I don't know if I should continue to just drop it now.

Hey not sure if this would help but I usually take zyrtec (cetrizine) everyday because without it my skin all over my body breaks out and gets itchy, but when the medicine begins to wear off I first feel it on my scalp, scalp gets inflamed and red/itchy before anything else. While i'm on the medication though, I have no problem, even when applying topicals.

thanks man,

The issue I have with dutasteride is that without it, my scalp inflammation is more minimum, only in the crown. With it, it causes inflammation all over the head. It's a side effect indicative of BAD things. No way hair can grow in that sick environment.

so dutasteride caused drastic inflammation for you? for how long? When did it go away? did you stabilize or regrow hair on dutasteride?

I'm not sure if it's the same kind of inflammation as yours, but I got pimples on my scalp, heavy shedding, and looked burning red on my scalp. My scalp was fine a few months later, just continued shedding, but not as much. Then shedding stops now when I upped my dosage to 2 caps (1mg) a day.

My hairs seem much better now, there might be some regrowth, but it's very hard to tell. I'll continue with dutasteride, and time will tell.

@BaldingHelpMe ,, why did you switch from finasteride to dutasteride? How long were you on finasteride and what results did you see? Have you noticed any differences since you've switched? Personally, I've been on finasteride for 2+ years with success.

I switched because I thought dutasteride would thicken up my hair even more, it was a mistake. I've been taking finasteride for over 14 years (2001-2015), it has stabilized my hair loss. Looking back, my hair while on finasteride was great, but not as thick as when I was a child. My hair has thinned a lot now due to Telogen Effluvium when I switched from finasteride to dutasteride, but since shedding has now subsided, I'm gonna stick with dutasteride for at least one more year.

It does not make sense that dutasteride would give a worse result than finasteride, and I understand hair needs time to grow, so time will tell.

Yeah definitely stick with it man. It could just be that your hair is going through shed cycles that will make it eventually grow back thicker. If it doesn't work out then hop back on finasteride but give it time.

Very promising and good to know that you had success with finasteride for a long time.

@buckthorn I am so sorry you hear about your ill fortune with the dutasteride. You really have my sympathy and empathy here. Unfortunately it just sounds like you lost the genetic lotto when it comes to the reflex hyperandrogenicity / AR upregulation problem in that you're exceptionally predisposed to it way more than most. I've read that the follicles can be powerful T to DHT converters themselves inside the follicles' own cells, and you must have got an over-abundance of that very phenomenon happening.

Have you ever tried the topical spironolactone ? I know it doesn't have such a great reputation, but if you haven't tried it, it might be worth a gamble.
