hey,
anyone got the straight dope on this? i mean, am i just absolutely cuckoo to be considering it? lets just forget about the cost and the hype for a minute...on the glaxo website, the official verbatim blurb on overdosage for dutasteride is:

"In a clinical study, daily doses of 5 mg (10 times the the theraputic dose) were administered to 60 subjects for 6 months with no additional adverse effects to those seen at theraputic doses of 0.5 mg."

any thoughts?

A study covering six months means very little when you are talking about taking a medication for 20-40 years. I take dutasteride at the .5 dosage. If you want to reduce scalp DHT more than that dosage level will accomplish, supplement with Revivogen or another of the DHT-fighting topicals.

but couldnt it just exist as a temporary fix until hair cloning becomes available (ie, 3-5 years)? i mean, once hair cloning can replace every hair youve ever lost and can even stimulate the growth of new hair, whats the point of keeping up the medication?

Keep in mind a few problems

How will long term results hold up?

What will be the cost?

What makes you think this will be available to the public in 3 to 5 years? It could be a decades away from common practice.

Also, the number one thign people seem to forget that HairLossTalk.com has brought up is a big and I mean big issue....The scalp can only be punctured a finite number of times!

Even if hair cloning becomes available, dutasteride is a fairly powerful drug. If I was in my 20's I doubt I would take it at all, let alone at five times the approved dosage.

haha not the same type of stem cells...hair cloning is the result of *adult* stem cells, not embryonic.
