While it does seem to me that Asians tend to have thicker scalp hair, I would NOT say that their diet includes some miracle cure against baldness. I have seen many VERY bald Asian men.

So if you eat too much soy and estrogen levels increase is that bad? What will happen? Or is there not much harm taking Soy Isoflavone supplements? I found four different Soy Isoflavone products at GNC's website. 3 are basically the same the only difference being the amount of isoflavone in the pill. Is that all one would need to take to increase their chances of producing Equol or would it be better to take a supplement that included isoflavones and Daidzein, Genistein, Formononetin and Biochanin? Because GNC also has a product that includes Isoflavone concentrate, Dong Quai Root extract and Red Clover that includes Daidzein, Genistein, Formononetin and Biochanin so i don't know if that was the optimal solution....

I believe it's daidzein and genistein that's needed for equol but I could be wrong.

Very interesting article. Kind of technical though since i'm not a pharmacist. After reading that article I'm wondering though if it's harmful to take soy isoflavone supplements if you are a non-equol producer? By reading the article it didn't seem like it was harmful for non-equol producers to consume greater than normal amounts of soy isoflavones. Also wondering if you can take a simple urine test at a hospital to check if you are an equol producer. Any comments?

HUH?

About Asians having thick hair---

that's confusing to me because my art school is filled with Asians, and after studying everyone's heads (a neurotic aspect of having male pattern baldness) it seems to me that Asians have much thinner scalp hair than Caucasians---women included. I base this on the fact that I can see all their scalps much more easily than most white (and especially black) students I see around me.

I know whites are much more prone to baldness than any other race, but it really does surprise me to hear people say that Japanese and others are insanely thick. All I can see are naturally thin people.

The Latinos and Hispanics around me, on the other hand......

lol, actually I really wouldn't mind getting my hands on those nuts. I've been looking for an easy way to integrate some soy into my diet.

There's actually some pretty tasty soy stuff around these days. Definitely try Boca Burgers (slice of onion and some ketchup and you'd never know it's not beef)

To get soy every day, do the following and you'll get plenty:

-use soy milk on your cereal
-eat a Cliff Bar (like a Power Bar but better) for a snack.
-have a Boca Burger for dinner,
-or drink an 'Odwalla' or other similar drink that has lots of soy protein in it.

And quit eatin those God awful Big Macs
