Japan

Hi People,

Its a very interesting article. Eating alot of Soya's probably the reason, that in the past you would hardly see any balding Japanese men, I don't know about nowadays. I believe that that the diets of people in Japan has changed, that is way Japanese people have becoming taller in recent generations. My be we should all start eating more soya, it can't hurt can it?, Maybe the mircle cure has been under our noses all these years!

Possibly; however, there are definite reports re: people (like Japanese)adopting the "western-style diet," and developing more common "Western" ailments, like BPH and hair loss.

The real question is when are some of these foods or supps protective for hair? Is it during adolescence (do you have to start young)? Does it help in adulthood or continue to help?

We see reason to believe the opposite can happen in adulthood. Ditching their prior life stlye could lead to some follicular battles.

Soy tastes like whatever you cook it with. It's kind of like escargot, if you cook it with garlic and butter, it will taste like garlic and butter.

It is the texture that is unfamiliar to the western palate.

He's right. Think critically guys. Don't just think "surface level" with everything ya read :) Soy is well known to increase estrogen. That article totally screws up the whole message by saying "Eating Soy can stop hair loss". Wrong. Its one of the *MOLECULES PRODUCED FROM THE DIGESTION OF SOY* that has the ability to help. You would have to isolate that molecule, encapsulate it, and test it for its ability on hair loss before you could know if it works. Soy itself causes many other things in the body to happen hormonally, and they are not related to helping hair loss at all. So... just eating soy will not help stop hair loss.

The focus of the article seemed to me to be on prostate cancer. I think that even if we're getting relatively small doses of the right molecules from our diet, it's bound to help out with our health and, most importantly, with cancer. Hairloss seems to be an altogether more difficult issue.
"Some studies suggest that 90 percent of all human cancers are environmentally produced, 30 to 40 percent of these by diet." - http://livingto100.com
Watch what you're eating. Even if foods like soy and green tea don't do anything for your hairloss, there is at least some evidence to suggest that they are good for your body and can help you avoid cancer (by helping to reduce the carcinagens that cause cancer, especially green tea).
At any rate, such foods are better than fried foods, like french fries, that have been shown to increase cholestorol, and therefore instances of conjestive heart failure. French fries are also believed by many researchers to contain high doses of carcinagens caused by the extremely high heats used in deep frying.
I'm eating healthier since I've most to the East, and while that certainly doesn't count as a double blind scientific experiment, the results for me in terms of health are compelling to say the least.

i'm not surprised. likei posted b4, japanese men have one of the thickest hair u could imagine. i would dare say some men in their 40 or 50's have more and thicker hair than a Westerner in his prime. i thought it was the styling at first, but some of the japanese business men i've been dealing with are in their 50's even and all they do is gel their hair backwards naturally and its thicker than most of the college kids i've seen in college.
