Dry eyes from finasteride!

Hello!

So I started using finasteride for 5 weeks. At around 2-3 weeks I started getting dry eyes.
At first I blamed minoxidil. I quit using that with no succes. It only got worse so I did a little research and found out finasteride can cause dry eyes.

I stopped taking finasteride 2 and a half weeks ago with not much succes.

Is there any body else who has had dry eyes and quit finasteride with succes to the eyes? Is it reversible?

My eyes are really "extreme" dry. So no redness or whatsoever. But they are noticably dry to me throughout the day which is really annoying.

Hey JTS, I was on the forum a bit and ended up reading a bit about your story. It the same thread Cheesy commited suicide. I just went in total shock!!
How are you doing? Are you recovered? I'm really depressed the last couple days. It has been 3 weeks off propecia. My eyes are getting better though. But I have headache. Bit of brain fog and some ache in my balls.

Unfortunately I haven't recovered yet. That said I've been seeing the benefit of physio and have recently added a more comprehensive stretching routine so that should be very helpful. I'm certain that I'll make a full recovery.

Cheesys suicide was a tragedy and I put a fair bit of blame on Propeciahelp. Post finasteride can manifest itself in a variety of ways and Cheesys version, clear hypogonadism, is perfectly treatable with testosterone replacement therapy or Clomid (a better option IMO). I've seen multiple people on that ****ing board that had clear androgen deficiencies who neglected treatment because others on the board with different manifestations of the condition didn't respond to it. They also make it seem like everyone who crashes has PFS yet my doctor has seen hundreds of crashes and is yet to find someone who didn't recover- he doesn't even believe that PFS is real, I obviously disagree but it goes to show how uncommon it is.

Anyway, you're recovering so relax and don't work yourself into a frenzy. The ball ache should subside- it may be pelvic floor issues though and may require therapy but it's far to early to tell.

Allright. Today I also went to an eye specialist. Who confirmed that Propecia was most likely the cause of my dry eyes. As my glands weren't producing any oils anymore due to androgen deficiency.
When would a crash most likely occur if I may ask? Is there like a time frame in which it could occur, and if it doesn't happen that am I safe?

I stopped 3 weeks ago. Everything seems to function sexually wise. Libido is a bit low but I'm not sure if that's caused by the propecia or depression.

Most crashes take place around a week after the initial recovery. Your probably in the clear.

Might I ask what your remaining symptoms are?

Difficulty passing urine, spasms in the pelvis. Less morning wood and difficulty staying hard while standing (I can still get plenty hard though- sometimes supernaturally so). That last symptom improved significantly with alpha blockers and I noticed improvement with my urinary symptoms after only a single biofeedback session. I'll be back to normal in due time.

You seem a lot more informed. What do you recommend a fellow propecia victim to do while recovering? Like suplemments or daily life activities?

Man I was so excited the first day I took a propecia pill. The 2nd - 3th week when the dry eyes, brain frog and depression came I thought it was something unrelated (As most people complaining about sides usually experience sexual stuff)
Even went to 2 doctors! Who both told me it is unrelated!! I doubted it. So I started tapering off from taking a pill every day to every other day to every 3 days etc. At week 5 just to be sure I quit. It was only today, 3 weeks after quiting myself that finally a doctor confirmed that it's Propecia. Now all I do through out the day is think how big of a fool I was for taking that damn pill. All I want is my health. I don't even care if I'm going bald anymore. Rather be bald and healthy than ****ed up and a head full of hair.

While your recovering just be healthy. Your already in the process of getting better so just allow your body to do the work. Eat and sleep well and you'll be fine.

After I recover I'm going to make a thread with general advice regarding finasteride and it's sides. Hopefully it'll get stickied and I'll leave this board for good- how I long for that day.

Update: My dry eyes have improved. Though not near normal. They are getting there. So I am happy about that.

The downside. I have a very big brainfog and a lot of headaches. The brainfrog is killing me. It seems as if it is getting worse. Anxiety is there as well.
Sexually everything works though libido is very low. Probably due the fact that all of this is making me feel very, very depressed. It has been 1 month since I quit.

What could be going wrong? My eyes seem to get better so I thought that would mean that my hormones are getting back to their old ways.

Any tips?
All of this is making me very depressed. I am at a loss.

Your improving so take it easy and use eye drops. Try meditation for your anxiety and you'll be fine. Please stop worrying yourself.

Unfortunately my brain fog has gotten worse. I am becoming suicidal. I have taken bloodwork and will see a psychologist soon. If anyone has advice. Please, let me hear from you.

Don't do something so drastic. I've had brainfog coming off of antidepressants and it was brutal and took over a month to subside. Propecia can do funny things in the first few months- this could be your system crashing but it'll certainly recover seeing as you haven't experienced a full on crash (which you would also probably recover from).

I crashed. My brainfog is still there and my testerone is at 13.7 or 275. Which is extremely low for a 20 year old. Any tips?
