Drug Masking with Finasteride?

I've read in various places how finasteride can be taken to mask the use of steroids in athletic drug testing. I've also heard mention that it masks certain recreational drugs. Is this true? And if so, can you give me any indication as to the science behind it?

I searched for another thread pertaining to this and couldn't find it. If there is one, I'll be happily referred.
