Dr. Lees 2% spironolactone liquid formulation??

I have been using Dr. Lees 2% liquid Spironolactone formulation for about a month to treat diffuse thinning on my entire scalp and I wonder about this topical and if it is working.

It seems to dry much too fast so I wonder if it's even absorbing (drys in 5 min or less)??

I try and apply a lot to keep it from drying so fast but this doesn't really help and is very expensive.

spironolactone is my most expensive treatment because I apply 2-3 ML twice daily (about 5ML/ day lasts about a week and a half)!

For these reasons I am thinking about dropping Dr. Lee's sh*t and finding stuff that will actually absorb properly and not be sooo expensive.

Can anyone help with this?? I am willing to make my own but I need to make a LIQUID, no creams or lotions!

One container in a week and a half?!

You are using far too much.

Anyways, keep in mind that spironolactone is not really a "regrowth" agent as minoxidil is. It's more of a defensive play, protecting the hairs you have against further damage from DHT, and also protecting the new sprouts that minoxidil spawns from being eaten while young. That being said, results from spironolactone alone should not have great expectations, but when used in conjunction with minoxidil, it is a valuable tool.

I find I use a lot of spironolactone too, I go through one of Dr Lees 5% 2oz jars in around 3 weeks. I really layer that sh*t on !

Spironolactone is effective in protecting the follicles from DHT because it (1) inhibits the synthesis of DHT, (2) converts testosterone in the scalp to estrogen, and (3) blocks the androgen receptor sites on the hair follicles, effectively preventing even circulating DHT from attaching to the receptor sites. As a result, the follicles are protected from miniaturizing and have the potential to mature again to their normal size.

Is estrogen a growth stimulator? If it is, then spironolactone may have regrowth properties.

Claim #3 above is undoubtedly true, but I have no idea where Dr. Lee got claims #1 and #2. I've seen no evidence at all for those.

My main concern is if Dr. Lee's formula dries too fast?? This is why I put on so much.

Does anyone else think this product is useless in penetrating the skin because it dries in like 2-4 minutes no matter how much I apply?

I'm not basing this on results with hair growth, I'm comparing it to other topicals that stay moist on the scalp for 20 minutes or longer. This way you know if your medicine is at least penetrating the skin.

Please keep in mind that I am talking about Dr. Lee's 2% LIQUID, NOT the 5% lotion.

It sounds like you'd be better off using a solution with a relatively high concentration of propylene glycol (PPG). As a bonus, spironolactone is more soluble in PPG than ethanol.

You would save a lot of money by dissolving comminuted spironolactone tablets, which you can buy from squaremeds.com. That's the best price I've been able to find.

Dave001, I specifically sent you a PM concerning this same thing, did you get it? If not is it possible you can help me concoct a spironolactone/ finasteride topical liquid? What about just for Spironolactone? What about just for Finasteride?

I have both Aldactone and Proscar pills but I am not going to ingest any of them. I would like to make a liquid based topical with both these medications.

How?
