Dr Lee answers minoxidil questions

So i emailed Dr Lee asking asking whether he had any new products in the pipeline, in short he replied no.

I was more interested in why he didn't use some ingredients in his existing products. Namely minoxidil sulphate (with the big following of nanominox i thought some others company's may of caught on)
Topical Keto
and procyanidin B-2

Heres what he said:

Whats are your thoughts on minoxidil sulphate?

I don't think that anyone could dispute that minoxidil sulfate would
work to promote hair growth, but, because it will be so expensive to
experiment with it, no pharmaceutical company or private practitioner
will work with it as a potential treatment for male pattern baldness. Any resulting
product would not be able to be patented.

Here's a copy of a Q & A I just submitted to Morphollica.com:

Q. Since minoxidil sulfate has been confirmed in many scientific
studies* to be the active metabolite of minoxidil in stimulating the
growth of hair follicles, why not use minoxidil sulfate to treat male pattern baldness?

A. Minoxidil sulfate is available from chemical companies such as
Spectrum (www.spectrumchemical.com) and The Lab Depot, Inc.
(www.labdepotinc.com). The cost of minoxidil sulfate is more than
$25.00 per milligram (mg). One milliliter of a 5% minoxidil sulfate
solution requires 50mgs of minoxidil sulfate, so the cost of the
minoxidil sulfate alone for a single application would be at least
$1250. If 1mL of 5% minoxidil sulfate were to be applied to the scalp
twice a day for one month (30 days), the cost would be $75,000.

Aside from the exorbitant cost, minoxidil sulfate is inherently unstable
and has to be kept frozen to preserve its chemical integrity.

And lastly apple procyanidin B-2 is often talked about, and there are
afew studies that show superior regrowth properties than minoxidil.
Not sure how true they are but why not include the ingredient in one
of you minoxidil products?

Procyanidins are a family of condensed tannins that have been identified
in apples, which act as a hair-growing factor in the murine (mouse)
model both in vitro and in vivo. Knowing this additional information, it
would be wise to keep closely abreast of the studies of procyanidin
oligomers in the treatment of male pattern baldness. The good results in Takahashi's
study of 21 men is exciting, but it will require full clinical trials
with double blind studies on a statistically significant number of male pattern baldness
patients to assess the true value of topical procyanidin oligomers for
the treatment of male pattern baldness.

Thought some of you may find this of interest, its a shame really because theres not a huge variaty of good minoxidil brands to choose from

If it is the case that the Minoxidil sulfate is so expensive, then both the Nanominox -MS and -FMS are relatively cheap!!! Does it mean either they do not use the minoxidil sulfate or they get it cheap in their resource in Europe? Sinere is selling them at the prices that they are still making profit, it is hard to understand :dunno:
