Don't know where to start

I'm new to the forums and just have a couple questions to ask, and if they could be answered would be greatly appreciated. I'm only 20 years old, but have noticed a for a year or 2 now that i'm starting to get a little thinner on top. I have great hair everywhere else, no problems at all, and when i'm walking around there is no sign at all of my hair loss. But recently I have gotten alot of comments when i'm sitting down in class or anywhere for that matter. People telling me i'm getting thinner on top really bothers me, and I want to make sure I catch this early. I have an amazing gf and want to keep her for the rest of my life, but i'm afraid she might be turned off by my balding and want to take action asap.

These are the questions I have.

1.What kind of things could I use to stop hair loss, or gain the hair I have lossed back, without any shedding or more hair loss to start with? I don't want anyone to know that i'm taking things for my baldness and don't want my hair to change for the worse.

2. Where can I get the product for the answer above?

3. Should I go see a doctor and find out what they suggest?

4. I haven't been able to find anywhere that tells if the myth of wearing a hat alot helps increase baldness, is this true or not?

5. Is there any kind of shampoo that might do the trick for me that I could just pick up from my local drug store or Wal Mart?

I'm probably missing alot of questions and i'll post them if I think up anymore, but in the mean time if these could be answered it would be a life saver. Thanks so much, and i've read so many great success stories in this forum, congrats to u all.

P.S I'm a webdesign student, and I have to sit at the computer all the time with people always standing over me, its embarrassing, i'm starting to cover up my trademark hair just so people don't comment on my growing bald spot ><.

Well, I'm experiencing exactly the same thing as you. May I know whthr your balding patch is on the top? or front? of your head? receding top?

Hate this kind of hopelessness...I have actually tried using regaine on/off, so maybe it's got no effect that way. I guess, I will give a try once more...

1. propecia is the main one for stopping it, but you need a prescription mostly and it has some bad side effects if your unlucky i think. minoxidil in the form of rogaine is used for growing it back and thats in the shops like normal. i havent used either of these but thats what i think i know about them. they will both probably cause shedding. there are other treatments but those 2 are approved for use officially.

2. doctor or internet for propecia and internet or shops in US (i think) for minoxidil.

3. if you want a prescription

4. not true

5. not that i know of, sorry.

that is what i know, but im not an expert so you might want to hear what some other people have to say.

1. Have patience - results will generally take months (<6) to spot.
2. Side effects can occur, but body can also adapt to them.
3. Build up a routine and follow it.
4. Concider yourself a general. The products you use are your armed forces. This is war. Casualties are expected.
5. Definitely read more about "THE BIG THREE". One smart thing is to try one product at a time in the beginning, by doing this you can really be sure what helps and what doesn't help - however, this takes time which some suffers just dont have. Again, this is a war.
6. Primary goal should be baldness speed slowdown, regrowth should be concidered bonus.

The best product, IMHO, to hide thinning, would be Toppik. This wont do jack for your hairloss, but it will improve the visual look of a thin scalp!

From the sounds of things, you need two things: Finasteride (a pill you take once a day) and Nizoral (a shampoo you use 2x-3x a week).

You should post pics to get a more accurate assessment though.

You can never guarantee that you're not going to shed. However you are very very very unlikely to shed with finasteride and nizoral.

You can get a prescription for finasteride from a doctor. If your doctor's a dick, you can just buy it yourself online. Nizoral you can buy in a supermarket or chemist.

There's no harm. Like I said, it's worth trying to get a prescription from a doctor. However, doctors generally don't know much about hair loss so don't be put off if they say stupid sh*t like "you can't stop hairloss!" ... "you cant regrow your hair!" ... "it doesn't look too bad!". These are quite commonly said by bog-standard GPs.

Absolutely false.

Yep, Nizoral.
