Basically, if I am seeing the first signs of hair loss ..... would using the major medications help things get better ...... or should I wait until I see full blown Hair Loss before I start such drastic action ??

I am actually convinced my hair loss is due to stress and not male pattern baldness ..... should I wait and see if its just temporary or would that mean I'm losing follicles which may never grow back ??

go see some one compitent and qulified to tell you if its male pattern baldness, or something else. if its early male pattern baldness, get on the big 3 ....if you want to go that way.

I agree.

If it is androgenic alopecia you should start with the big 3. The sooner the better. People tend to postpone the treatment or prefer to start "small" and only after a while to add more stuff. My advice - don't wait and combat it the soonest and the strongest you can. Many people here, including myself, are really sorry they didn't start with the big 3 right at the beginning. The alopecia doesn't stop or rest....once you started with it it will only get worse over time, and the chances to restore your hairs slim. Think about it a few days and concider to do so,
Good luck!

May I ask you how long the duration of your finasteride treatment was?

Many of the side effects you complain of aren't recorded in any finasteride studies.

Side effects occur in less than 2% of people using 1mg finasteride.

They also go away throughout treatment, if you stick to it.

6-7 months is not enough time to tell if Propecia is working for you. It takes a minimum of 12 months to decide if it is REALLY working for you.

I feel sure you would have had more success had you continued with treatment.

Propecia works in 83% of people at maintaining and/or regrowing.

without reading your entire post, does the big 3 prevent hairloss? absolutley.. its best to stop hairloss in its tracks. putting a pause button on your situation, and many people wish they had started using earlier the treatments. for the rest of your questions and responses, I didn't read.

Aplunk: Well, don't we save our hair so we can look better and get the more beautiful girl? Well, if our sexlife/libido is crippled, then what's the point? I was on finasteride almost 7 months, and the entire time I lost a sh?tload of hair. 7 months later (after starting the treatment), I was A LOT worse of then when I started. It also took several months to get back my sexdrive. The sides did abate after a few months of use, but still I was nowhere near my pre-finasteride state.
Those 2% are what Merc says. It's a well known fact that often sideeffects occur more often then what the documentation tells you.
DHT is a hormone connected to sexual function, so when people say they use dutasteride and have no sides, that sounds very impressive... Obviously the hormone balance will differ from body to body.
What about Arcon Tisane which also has studies that claims the same successrate as Propecia, and I've yet to read about a single person who tried that and had success with the product.
I also tried external dht products like Nisim shampo and conditioner (ala minoxidil), which also had no effect. (It had money back garantuee, so I didn't loose any money trying it).
I would love to have my hair back, or keep what I have...but seriously, my sexlife is possibly the one thing I find more important than having great hair.
Anyway, if there's anyone here who actually have great success with finasteride, then that's great. I just don't think it's the miracle cure that some people here believe it is.

We all have different reasons for wanting hair. The healthiest reason to want hair, in my opinion, is to raise our self-esteems.

Using finasteride treatment for less than 7 months provides little or no indication that it's working for you, in terms of your hair. Your hair cycles were likely adjusting before you quit.

In terms of having a lower libido, that, too, goes away throughout treatment. There are a number of supplements that you can take if you REALLY need to help your libido-- ie, L-Arginine.

No it's not.

Many of the side effects that people incur are likely from a placebo effect.

None of the "external dht products" that you listed are proven to treat male-pattern baldness. Minoxidil has a great success rate. You should use it twice daily.

Check out the Success Stories Forum. There are numerous successes with finasteride. Although it might not be the miracle cure that some believe it is, it is the best, proven treatment that we have.

Finasteride works. Side effects vanish over time, if you are unfortunate enough to get them. Try exercising more and eating better. I'm sure you'll feel better.

Minoxidil works, working synergistically with Propecia. Highly recommended.

Nizoral works, with numerous benefits.

The Big 3 will not harm your hair.

Finasteride will not make your "hair worse off than what it was." You obviously didn't continue Propecia long enough to make a true decision.

Don't use scare tactics and ruin people's options with finasteride by providing your "hopeless" story.

word to aplunk1. i'm getting a bit sick of these people who assume that if they got side effects then everyone must have them. and those who judge the rate of side effects by how many people have posted negative comments here. this board contains probably less than 1% of the amount of people using finasteride.

and arcon tisane? its a freakin herbal product dude. therefore its not been externally clinically tested, whatever claims they have about how well it works are completely untrustworthy. so where is the comparison between the two?

dude you got side effects, so your part of the 2%. i didn't so i'm not. although who knows what other factors contributed to your libido loss. do you smoke, drink, have a bad diet, not exercise much, live a stressful lifestyle, are you on any other medications, does anyone in the family have diabetes? you said it yourself, maybe you just got older.

Dang it !

Now I'm even more scared !!

Should I go for it and risk losing my sex life ..... or should I hold back and risk losing even more hair which potentially could have been prevented .....

With all this stress, no wonder I'm going bald !!

I hate my DNA :(

Scarpro,
I have no doubt that things were probably very tough on you, as they were for me throughout the duration of finasteride treatment.

Have you considered taking an anti-depressant to help combat any depression you might have? They are very successful. I personally use Remeron, which has the lowest case of sexual side effects.

As far as battling the side effects go, you can take L-Arginine. Hell, you could even go as far as taking Enzyte, which many people claim to work.

6 months simply isn't enough time... It's not.

Life can be good, and you can help maintain, if not regrow, your hair. It's all about your strategy, and as I'm finding out, your attitude.

Goodluck with any decision you might make.

Andy
