Okay so it's 5 years later. been on proscar .625 mg. hairline has stayed virtually the same. in all this time I wonder if it's really necessary.

I found out a couple years ago my grandfather on my mother's side is actually my step grandfather.
He's the only male in my family that ever really had the horseshoe balding pattern. The people in my Mom and Dad's respective family all have thin hair.

The thing with my dad's side of the family is not only is their hair thin, but my dad, some cousins and uncles have very low density hair. That being said, my dad is in his late 40's-early 50's and he doesn't have a terribly high hairline and seems to have retained most his hair. So I have a derm appointment tomorrow. going to asked the Doctor if we can monitor myself off finasteride, see if things get worse.

Thanks for the update! If you don't have bad sides definitely stay on finasteride
