I have noticed a receding hairline and just overall thinning of my hair. I have always had extremely thick hair and now its almost to the thin side. However I would not say my case is extreme enough to be called male pattern baldness. Also I have no male pattern baldness in my family on either side.

So my question is would taking propecia pre-emptivley to try and cut off any possible hairloss actually create hairloss if i dont have male pattern baldness? if I notice side effects I would like to be able to dis-continue use. Or should I just wait until it is actually bad enough to be considered male pattern baldness?

Also some additional information is that I am a bit of a gym rat and have taken pro-hormones in the past which from what I have read can create hairloss. I am not currently on any supplements nor have I been in over 6 months.

Like most questions dealing with male pattern baldness and hair loss the answer is pretty much no one knows for sure. In theory it should not hurt your hair to take propecia if you did not have male pattern baldness to begin with, but there is so much unknown it is nearly impossible to say for sure. Most likely though taking it for prevention would be fine aside from the waste of money.
