Does taking dutasteride every day has same eff as taking it ever 2 or 3 days

QUESTION ABOUT dutasteride

Hi guys I m taking proscar 1.25 mg two and a half months, and i m just looking for my options if i don t see any reults at one year stand. So my question is does taking dutasterid every day has same eff as taking it every other or third day beacuse of it long half-life? And I m wondering about guys who are taking dutasteride how often do you take your pill? (and i apologise for my english it s not my mother tongue)

Your more likely to experience sides from dutasteride than on finasteride. Dutasteride blocks the type 1 enzyme as well as type 2 and this dht may well be needed in the brain as no-one knows the long term impacts of this. I would only use dutasteride if finasteride isn't strong enough to work for you after a year. finasteride didn't do anything for me so I had to make the switch and I would advise taking 0.5mg everyday as that's the standard dose.

Yea I am awere that if i take dutasteride i will have bigger risks of side eff, and i m only planning to use it if i don t see any results with proscar at one year stand.
But I am only assking will dutasteride have same results if i take it every other or third day inested every day because dutasteride is pretty expensive and i am just a student?
How long are you on dutasteride? Do you have any sides? And is your hair improving? And tnx for your answeer

There is a member here on HairLossTalk by the user name of 'nickypoos' who got incredible results by taking 0.5 mg of Dutasteride every other day, and even after a while, he started taking the medication every third day and his hair still continued to improve. My point is, you can take 0.5 mg of Dutasteride every other day or even every third day and still see great results. Dutasteride has a half-life of approximately five weeks, so that's why the medication works so well at a small dose of 0.5 mg when taken once every few days. Taking 0.5 mg of Dutasteride daily is only the approved dosage, which I myself personally like to follow.

If your a bit low on money and want to use Dutasteride to treat your hair loss, you can definitely take a capsule of the medication once every other day or even once every third day and still get results.

And yeas i have seen nickys storry and his regrowth is relly great.
i m deffinitly sticking with finasteride untill one year stand, but i like to have back up plan if finasteride fails that s way i am asking this quesstions about dutasteride.
And winny i think that you are wrong dutasteride is much stronger so it doesn t mean that if you dont succed with finasteride that you wont with dutasteride.

Its always worth a shot. Ive seen a few post from people with mild hair loss having no luck with finasteride and great results with dutasteride. Its very strange.

Well, technically speaking, there is no approved Dutasteride dosage for hair loss, but 0.5mg is the most common dose that people take (myself included).

But it only reduces dht2 by like 10 percent more than finasteride? Thats not heaps

It is still a big difference in relative terms though. Dutasteride at 0.5mg daily leaves just 1-2% of DHT left from 5ar2, whereas finasteride leaves about 10 to 15 times that amount left. This difference could be huge for a person who has highly DHT-sensitive follicles.

In answer to the original question, dutasteride is slightly more effective if taken at 0.5mg every day than 0.5mg every second or third day. The difference is small, but still exists. Because of dutasteride's very long half-life, taking 0.5mg once every 2 days is essentially exactly the same as if you were to take 0.25mg once each day (and, likewise, 0.5mg every 3 days is the same as 0.17mg every day).

tnx for your anweer i have just one more qestion if you don t mind, would it be more eff if you take one day dutasteride and other finasteride, instedh of just taking dutasteride every other day, or is finasteride noo need in that case?

It's not so much to do with dutasteride's half life that means you can take it 2-3 times a week. In fact finasteride is out of the system in 16 hours yet you can also take it 2-3 times a week with results. More so to do with the fact that the type 2 alpha reductase enzyme takes ages to regenerate and produce adequate amounts of DHT once inhibited by a dose of dutasteride/finasteride - talking days, maybe more.

finasteride takes you up to 90% inhibition of type 2. dutasteride up to 98%. For the majority of people, finasteride is enough. For those who have very aggressive genes they will probably need dutasteride. Like you though, I haven't seen many success stories of people losing on finasteride, then getting on dutasteride and having a massive turn around. I'm sure it does happen though, most likely buys a few more years.
