Does spironolactone actually work? Anyone?

The question says it all. Is there anyone on this site who can honestly say that topical spironolactone has worked for them. I'm not even talking about regrowth, just maintenance. Also being topical, I assume it has to be rubbed in everywhere where there is thinning/hair loss in order to work in those specific areas? :dunno:

Heh, I doubt you´ll get a straight answer for this one.

Not because spironolactone doesn´t work (studies suggest it does- to a certain degree at least), but because no one on this forum (at least that I know of) uses spironolactone exclusively.

I've been using spironolactone for a long time now. It does work

I just started 2 weeks ago. I hope it's gonna work for me. I'm using it in the evening with minoxidil. I want to try and use it in the morning now too. I also want to stretch this jar as much as possible, so i just touch my fingertip onto the lotion surface, and that itself it gives a reasonable amount of cream, i think.

It works good for me in the way that it keep my scalp more healty. My scalp gets a bit dry if i use minoxidil without it, but it keep cool if i use it. My spironolactone got aloe vera among other ingredients. :)
Dont underestimate the importance of a irritated scalp, it can really give your hair a hard time progressing...

Only bin using it for 2 weeks or something, so i got no idea if it works in form of androgen blocker.

You can get it from eather this site or minoxidil.com. They got 2 different types, who works best is unknown...

hairlosstalk.com:
5% Spironolactone, 1% Caffeine, 0.025% Retinol, Menthol, Rosemary Oil

minoxidil.com:
5% spironolactone (50mg spironolactone / gm) in a lotion base of water, aloe vera gel, stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, alkyl octanoate, mineral oil, dimethicone, tocopherol acetate, magnesium aluminum silicate, sorbitol, disodium EDTA, methylparaben, dimethlydimethyl hydantoin.

Retinol is ret-a as far as i know, so careful if you use ret-a or a minoxidil with ret-a in it :)

Retinol isn't Retin-A. Retinol is just another name for vitamin A! I've always suspected that some product makers put retinol in their topicals just to confuse their customers and make them think it's Retin-A! :puke:

Bryan is right.
It's just fat-soluble vitamin A. I believe it's more important for bone growth than fighting hair loss.

Hello rcom, just looking at your regimen and it is something similar to what I want to put together. My question is about rogaine as I see you use it once a day. Is it ok to do this as opposed to twice a day?

Yes, I believe that you can regrow and maintain minoxidil hair with once a day
application. I use Rogaine liquid only at night because I don't like how it feel and look on my scalp so using it during the day is completely out of the question.
