Have been a very light smoker for a few years in my twenties, and then became a quite heavy smoker about 5 years ago ..... I smoke mainly Menthol cigarettes ...... does smoking, especially Menthols have anything to do with my gradual hair loss ??

It's not doing anything to your hair.

More than likely making your lungs look like an overbaked squid though.

Poor oxygen circulation will exaccerbate any medical condition. How to stop smoking? I was lucky, as a once heavy smoker with an undeniable classic addictive personaltiy I can hardly now explain how I managed to gave up in 1999. Perhaps that helped me to eventually regrow some hair? Gving up is worth a try, if I could do it, surely almost anyone can. Smoke is very bad for your skin, thyroid etc.

I don't think smoking causes hairloss but it can't be doing anything good for your hair, or your general health.

I don't think there's any conclusive evidence that smoking causes hairloss, but I did read an article that linked it to premature graying. Gray hair is, for the most part, drier and more brittle than your regular hair, and given that smoke dries out your hair as well, I'd think it could lead to breakage, though that's just my theory.

Either way, it's definitely not good for your hair, I mean look at a lot of long time smokers that have that fried-out dry hair.

I just quit almost three weeks ago, so it's too soon to tell if it's made much difference, but I can say that my hair smells a lot better. I'm hoping that with time it'll go back to the softer, shinier look it had before I started smoking (though I think that male pattern baldness had a part in that change as well).

Smoking won't cause your hairloss but it will damage the folicles..

How? Because it damages every single cell in your body, that's why! That's the reason why smoking is a risk factor in virtually all cancers and diseases..
