Does shedding always occur in the existing hair loss area?

Just wanted to see if anyone else seems to spot their existing areas of male pattern baldness getting worse as this is what's currently happening to me and I can't tell if it is a shed or the male pattern baldness getting worse again.... ie can temples get worse then better again? Or is a shed always "all over", diffuse style?
