Does propecia affect beard growth?

The reason I ask is because I have never tried to grow one before until now. And I have next to nothing growing on my cheeks, and everywhere else is patchy after 3 weeks :thumbdown2:

My understanding is dht does have a mild effect on body hair growth, for example some people have tested home made topicals by putting them on body hair and looking for a decrease in body hair growth.

Personally it didn't make that much of a difference to me on the face but i think my arms and legs seem to be hairier without the stuff, but that could just be ageing.

When did you start taking propecia?

Btw some people just can't that much facial hair anyway, and some people grow ginger beards despite having dark hair, not that that's relevant but i thought i'd share my pain.

If you compare hairs on women's body to hairs on men's body, you'll see which hairs are dependent on DHT.

Body hair (chest, arm, back, legs etc) seems to be affected directly by DHT. Some people report no more body hair growth, or a reduction in body hair after being on finasteride for a while.

Beard growth we are not sure of. Some of us have seen ever-increasing beard growth on finasteride, while some people report the opposite.

First...how old are you?

Finasteride definitely has an effect on body hair. My arm, chest and leg hair have all been drastically reduced. However....I had a patchy useless beard at 24 and now I am 34 and sporting a full beard for the first time in my life. Beard hair doesn't come in for everyone at the same rate.

Some people can't even get a full beard until they are 40.

I think that DHT's function in our body is dramatized by some people...DHT is only necessary in fetus and puberty periods...?n adults, we don't know main function of DHT...

DHT hasn't got a useful androgenic effect..

Thankfully, I have not noticed anything like that and I have been on propecia for 2 years now.

Am I supposed to see a reduction?

Yep, same here! I would also like that side!

I haven't taken finasteride for months now as I ran out and didn't restock. Instead I have started using Minoxidil in the form of Rogaine Foam and I don;t wuite believe it but I think it's 'working'.

Regarding body hair whilst on finasteride, I can't say that I noticed a change but then, I have had a heavy beard since about 20 years old (26 now).

I'm pretty sure it doesn't affect beard growth at all, if it did there would be a lot of very happy male-to-female transsexuals running around :)
